About us
BOMA/Chicago is a trade association that has represented the Chicago office building industry since 1902. Membership includes 245 commercial offices, institutional and public buildings, and 200 companies that provide commercial building services to support operational excellence. BOMA/Chicago members constitute approximately 80 percent of all rentable office space and more than 98 percent of rentable space in Class A buildings downtown. BOMA/Chicago has played a vital role in advocating on behalf of our members for over a century and continues to be a leader in drafting new building codes, advancing fire and life safety measures, negotiating mutually beneficial labor agreements, and enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability practices. We provide valuable resources that help our members advance Chicago's commercial real estate industry each and every day through continuing education and strategic partnerships that equip our members with the tools and information necessary to confront the challenges and opportunities of our ever-changing industry. Our members also play a vital role in ensuring the economic viability of downtown Chicago. We asked Marisol Olvera (EQ Office), one of our Diversity Committee members, what #HispanicHeritageMonth means to her: “It’s a time to remember where I came from and how far we have come to be part of this incredible country. It gives us the opportunity to share our food, music and talent.” Arroz con Gondules (rice with pigeon peas) made by her mother is her favorite Puerto Rican dish.

Freddy Flores (Vantage Elevator Solutions) has been in the industry for over 25 years and stays involved with the BOMA/Chicago Foundation by serving on both the Diversity Committee and Nominating Committee. He says, “Hispanic Heritage Month is about sharing the rich traditions of my culture with others – from the food we enjoy as a family, the vibrant music that fills our homes, and the deep faith that guides us. It's also a celebration of our love for soccer, a sport that brings us together across generations. Through these shared experiences, we honor our roots and connect with others in meaningful ways.” His favorite food is Ecuadorian empanadas. It brings back childhood memories, and he loves eating them with his family.

It’s #MemberMonday! Meet one of our Diversity Committee members Blanca Lopez (JLL). She reminds everyone that #HispanicHeritageMonth is a celebration of identity, culture, and history. She says, “it means embracing the richness of my roots, acknowledging the contributions of my ancestors, and carrying forward the traditions that have shaped who I am today. It is about the stories, struggles, and achievements of those who came before me and paved the way – leaving a legacy for my daughters and making my mother proud.” As a proud Ecuadorian, her favorite recipe is Encebollado. Encebollado is a traditional Ecuadorian fish stew, made with fresh tuna, yuca (cassava), and pickled red onions. It’s comforting, hearty, and often enjoyed with a squeeze of lime and a side of plantain chips.
