BOMA International would like to introduce Kate Deady-Havekost, MBA as our March Emerging Professional of the Month! 🏢👩💼💼 Kate first began her journey in commercial real estate on the brokerage side during college. Kate’s mentors encouraged her to pursue property management and following graduation, Kate landed a job at Transwestern in asset services. Kate has since received the BOMA San Antonio 2023 Property Manager of the Year award while also recently completing her MBA at Baylor University this past December. Kate is highly involved with BOMA at both the Local and International level. She began by participating in BOMA San Antonio’s emerging professional committee and then went on to receive a scholarship to attend the BOMA International Annual Conference & Expo in 2021. From there, Kate applied for the Emerging Professional seat on the Executive Committee at BOMA International, where she’s secured a regular member seat and is currently on her second term for the role. At the same time, Kate is also a participating member of the Emerging Professional, Energy Resilience & Sustainability, Building Codes, and Workforce Advocacy committees for BOMA International. With her active involvement with BOMA San Antonio and BOMA International, Kate advises emerging professionals in commercial real estate to “cultivate curiosity and kindness in your approach. Proactively seek out learning opportunities and volunteer for projects or committees. Don't hesitate to admit when you lack knowledge—doing so does not reflect poorly on you. Instead, it presents a valuable opportunity to ask insightful questions and gain further understanding from both the situation and the people around you.” If you are new to the CRE industry and are interested in learning more about how BOMA International’s Emerging Professionals Committee can benefit your career, please reach out to EP@BOMA.org!

Last week was another fun, productive, and very successful week in Washington, D.C. Started out with BOMA International's National Issues Forum & Legislative Fly-In, where we met with several of our U.S. Representatives and their staffs, and discussed issues and bills that are important to our commercial real estate industry. Thank you to Reps. Eric Swalwell, Josh Harder, and Young Kim who took the time out of their busy schedules to meet with us personally. After the Fly-In, we rolled into our BOMA International Executive Committee Spring Governance Meeting. Another great meeting with our leadership team and executive staff. We continue to work on our strategic direction and goals for 2025. I will say, we are off to a great start and I look forward to seeing our progress throughout the year. A special thank you to Geoff Wardle for the trip to the famous Ben's Chili Bowl. That was a fantastic lunch. We all work very hard when we are together and I appreciate the time to share meals together and get to know each other as friends. It is such a great group of people.

Advocacy is one of the most important responsibilities we have as members of BOMA International. We are in Washington, DC this week advocating on behalf of our valued members. We have been meeting with members of Congress and their staff advocating legislation that will benefit our membership. Measures include S389/H.R.973 A bill to establish consumer standards for lithium batteries and S756/H.R.1151 Freedom to invest in Tomorrow's Workforce. It was great to see BOMA members out in force advocating for these and other measures. A big shout out to Sam Lopez and Advocacy Department, BOMA International for organizing Lobby Day. BOMA San Francisco We're continuing to meet with legislators and their staff today on your behalf.
