Position for Excellence | Enabling surgical site access while mitigating risk of patient harm due to poor positioning.
About us
Our positioning solutions are developed with clinicians, for clinicians. Effective operative access can require patients to be placed in positions that are not physiologic, leading to secondary patient complications. The makeshift approach to patient positioning uses pillows, towels, IV bags, and tape to position an anesthetized patient that can yield inconsistent results and add patient risk. BoneFoam’s mission is to support surgical positioning and post-operative recovery while mitigating risk of patient harm due to poor positioning. BoneFoam products are used in over 7,000 hospitals throughout the US and globally.

Where It All Began: Orthopedic Trauma The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) was founded to improve patient outcomes in trauma through education, research, and advocacy, uniting a global community of healthcare professionals dedicated to excellence in fracture care. Each year, the OTA fosters collaboration by providing educational resources that empower orthopedic providers to enhance their practices. Similarly, BoneFoam was originally founded to address the inefficiencies of patient positioning in trauma cases. Recognizing the challenges associated with macgyvered positioning setups using rolled up towels, tape, and IV bags, we developed specialized positioning solutions designed around operative safety and efficiency. Our portfolio is now utilized by thousands of trauma surgeons worldwide, while supporting various surgical disciplines. Both BoneFoam and the OTA share a commitment to empowering the orthopedic community through innovation and collaboration. We are excited to participate in the upcoming OTA meeting, connecting with decades-long partners and friends, and sharing insights to elevate the quality of care for orthopedic trauma patients. Last year at North American Spine Society, BoneFoam ran a simple poll with dozens of respondents answering the following question: Which surgical position presents the most significant patient positioning challenges in Spine Surgery? According to the data, Lateral (LLIF, OLIF, DLIF, XLIF) narrowly edged out Prone (PCF, PLIF, TLIF, PLF) as the most significant patient positioning challenge, while the Supine (ACDF, ADR, ALIF, ACCF) was viewed as the lower-hanging-fruit opportunity to improve intraoperative throughput from wheels in to incision via a standardized method. Luckily for all: You don’t have to choose! Visit our very own Clint McCullough Marissa Salo, Ben Watters and Buzz Hannahan at Booth #4208 to see our new-and-improved systems for Lateral, Prone, and Supine Spine positioning!
