Despite the media spotlight on women's sports, a crucial health issue remains in the shadows: breast force impact injuries. As the founder of Boob Armour, I'm on a mission to change that. The Harsh Reality: • Breast injuries in sports are alarmingly common, yet severely underreported • These injuries can lead to fat necrosis, mimicking breast cancer cells in imaging • Many female athletes suffer in silence, unaware of the long-term consequences. Breaking the Silence: The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup highlighted a critical truth: "women are not small men" when it comes to sports equipment. At Boob Armour, we're not just creating protective gear – we're igniting a revolution in women's sports safety. The Boob Armour Difference: Our innovative inserts encapsulate, not compress, providing crucial protection for female athletes across disciplines. From Matildas star Katrina Gorry to Capital's basketballer Alex Bunton, over 3,500 athletes worldwide trust Boob Armour. A Call to Action: It's time to prioritise women's health in sports. We need:- 1. Increased awareness among athletes, coaches, and sports organisations. 2. More research into breast injuries and their long-term effects. 3. Sports governing bodies to recognise and address the unique needs of female athletes. The "Matildas effect" has opened doors, but we're just getting started. Join us in this crucial conversation. How can we ensure that every female athlete has the protection and knowledge she deserves? Together, let's reshape the future of women's sports – one protected athlete at a time. #WomenInSports #AthleteSafety #BoobArmour #SportsInnovation #WomensHealth

Women's sports are exponentially growing, and Australian female-centric start-ups are emerging to meet the rising needs and demand. The growth of women's sport in Australia has been significant and continues to gain momentum across participation, broadcast & media, sponsorship and general professionalisation. Globally, Deloitte has predicted that women's elite sport will generate $1.94b in revenue in 2024, up 300% from only 3 years ago. Although things are trending in the right direction, sports apparel, equipment and access has not kept up with the pace of change. Female participation in sport is low (has been for decades) and female athletes from the grassroots to the elite level have been faced with the scenario of having to use inappropriate apparel and equipment which has put limits on comfort, participation, performance and has contributed to injury. Women's uniforms have also tended to be tight-fitting, and a national study by Victoria University found that this scenario was turning girls off sport, and that girls drop out of sport because they feel embarrassed about putting their bodies on display. Sports apparel and equipment has also been traditionally designed for males, and some brands have tried to create a women's offering by simply applying a "shrink it and pink it" approach. This hasn't worked though because the female anatomy is fundamentally different. Due to a lack of research, development and specially designed sports apparel and equipment, females have also experienced injury e.g. ACL injuries are prevalent in women's sport and there's evidence suggesting that football boots have been contributing to the problem. Recognising the above, start-ups have emerged to fill the void: IDA Sports A fast-growing sports apparel brand founded in Melbourne, that's developed a soccer cleat specifically for females Boob Armour "High impact protective inserts for women on the move, on the field, or on the job" Even Playing Field "A Canberra company offering sportswear and sports equipment designed specifically for the female body" Fempro Armour "Female protection for injury prevention for action sport, high-risk frontline personnel, and healthcare" Footy Girls (footygirls.com.au) "Womens shoulder pads designed by women for women" Keepher "Elite quality, female specific goalkeeper gloves down under" Pitch Up "A platform designed to empower women and girls in sports by connecting them with superior venues and facilities" Zena Sport "Designers of the most advanced female breast and rib impact protection vest" Although women are still underrepresented in sports, things are trending upwards and start-ups are playing a vital role in fueling its growth, and vice versa. Do you now of any other female-centric sports start-ups worth noting? #sportsbusiness #startups #womenssport

I was thrilled to see the AFL's latest concussion protocols for the 2024 season, marking a significant stride towards safeguarding player safety across all levels of Australian Football. As our product is grassroots and community entry, it's reassuring to witness a steadfast commitment to safety at every level. With careful consideration, these protocols aim to prioritise the well-being of athletes while providing clear guidelines for their return to play. In the elite realm of AFL and AFLW, where advanced care settings are available, the league maintains the mandatory 12-day return protocol. This protocol, backed by an exhaustive 11-step process, underscores the unwavering commitment to players' health and safety. A groundbreaking development extends the minimum return protocol to 21 days across all other Australian Football competitions, including community and junior levels. This unified approach reflects the dedication to aligning with the latest medical research and ensuring consistent standards of care throughout the sport. Understanding the diverse needs of players and the resources available at different levels of competition is crucial. While elite athletes benefit from specialised care, younger players receive heightened caution and extended recovery periods, emphasising a personalised approach to concussion management. Furthermore, enhancements in assessment tools, expanded concussion management strategies, and increased transparency in reporting and monitoring protocols have been made. These measures underscore the commitment to continuous improvement and responsiveness to evolving medical insights. Collaboration lies at the heart of these protocols, with input from medical experts shaping every aspect of the guidelines. This collective effort ensures that player safety remains paramount, setting a standard for sports organisations worldwide. As we embark on the 2024 season, these comprehensive concussion protocols stand as a testament to unwavering dedication to players' well-being. By prioritising safety and innovation, it reaffirms commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and accountability in Australian Football. Together, let's embrace the journey ahead with a renewed focus on the health and safety of all involved in this beloved sport. #AFLSafety #PlayerWellbeing #CommunityFootball #ConcussionProtocol #SportsSafety #GrassrootsSports #PlayerHealth #AustralianFootball #SafetyFirst #SportsMedicine

Congratulations are in order for the AFL on its ambitious $1 billion investment over the next decade, reflecting a profound commitment to advancing girls' and women's involvement in Australian rules football. With the objective of doubling registered participants by 2033, the AFL's initiative signifies a fundamental pivot towards inclusivity and gender equity within the sport. This substantial investment promises to redefine the Australian rules football landscape by prioritising initiatives aimed at empowering and supporting girls and women. From the construction of new facilities to the expansion of capacities, the AFL seeks to enhance infrastructure and accessibility for female athletes nationwide. Furthermore, the introduction of modified game versions targets diverse communities, extending invitations to girls and women from various backgrounds to engage and thrive in the sport. The investment also addresses the repercussions of Covid by retaining juniors aged six to ten, ensuring sustained support for the development of future generations of female players. Crucially, the AFL's commitment extends to boosting women's participation from 27 per cent to 50 per cent, recognising the invaluable contributions of female athletes and the imperative for gender parity within the sport. While the AFL does not mandate breast protection, promoting its use among female players can be a proactive step in ensuring their safety and confidence on the field. Encouraging females to wear breast protection not only demonstrates a commitment to their well-being but also serves as a proactive measure to address potential risks and injuries. This inclusive approach not only enhances safety but also sends a powerful message of support for female athletes, fostering an environment where they feel valued, protected, and empowered to participate fully in the sport they love. This not only bolsters confidence among female athletes but also offers reassurance to parents, encouraging them to register and endorse their daughters' participation, knowing they are adequately protected. Through initiatives promoting the use of protective gear tailored for female players, the AFL further cements its commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and support within Australian rules football. Through strategic resource allocation and a commitment to inclusivity, the AFL sets a powerful precedent for gender equality and opportunity in Australian rules football. As the sport evolves, this investment lays the groundwork for a future where girls and women of all ages can embrace football as a conduit for growth, empowerment, and achievement. #WomenInSport #InclusiveFootball #EmpoweringAthletes #GenderEquality #SafeSport #FemaleParticipation #ProtectHerGame #FootballForAll #CommunityFootball #InclusiveCulture
