The technology sector has long been accused of not being truly representative of wider society. From ethnicity to gender and on through areas like neurodiversity and socio-economic background, it often appears that there is a very distinct “type” that is likely to succeed, particularly at leadership level, within tech and data organisations. However, over the last 10 years or so, it could be argued that this has begun to change and that a newer, more diverse group of leaders have started to change the power dynamic within the sector. Listen to Rob and Pardeep Cassells talking through Par’s approach to Cultivating Inclusion, such as: - How Par’s background, upbringing and early career experiences have helped to shape her approach to how she now builds and runs teams. - The importance of allies, and how Par approaches her own role as an ally to others. - Why it’s important that FinTech stays “disruptive” and different to traditional Financial Services and what should be done to maintain this separation. In an era of Open Banking, AI and APIs, it’s never been simpler to utilise financial services products to successfully manage personal and business finances. However, much of the innovation and ease of use of these tools may not be widely known, distributed or discussed beyond the realm of financial services data experts. I am joined today by a Data Leader who believes passionately in deeply understanding our financial behaviours and patterns to help us maximise our financial potential. Rob and Marilena discuss many aspects of where innovation and data driven products can improve personal financial management, including: · How organisational data-driven decision making, like credit scoring, has become better understood by the public and how this understanding can improve wider personal financial management · Some of the products and tools that are available to help individuals manage their finances more effectively and the impact this can have on areas like health and quality of life · The risks associated with allowing tools like AI to make decisions on our behalf, rather than utlising them as an aid to our own financial decision making. According to the World Economic Forum, by 2025, it’s estimated that 463 exabytes of data will be created each day globally, the equivalent of 212,765,957 DVDs per DAY. Some of this data will be generated by machines, and some of it by humans. When that data is our data, when it’s personal or sensitive information, we need to ask ourselves when should and shouldn't that data be shared or even collected. Whether it’s for medical trials that lead to breakthroughs 'for good' or with the government, or with technology companies building new AI tools, we should understand and accept when our data should be kept private and minimised and where sharing or publishing would be a breach of trust. Robin and Sorcha discuss: How both societal and organisational data literacy skills enhance data privacy and governance understanding. The challenges that a lack of understanding can bring with regards to data sharing “Surveillance Capitalism” and the data we’re sharing inadvertently… Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eCuBzS33 #data #datasecurity
