Autumn is here, kids are back in school, and our team members showed up in a big way again this year for our annual Rock Solid School Supply Drive. This year, seven locations supplied nine local elementary and early education schools. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year another success, and best of luck to students of all ages throughout the 2024-2025 school year! At the recent National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) luncheon in DC, Spencer Young, Senior Manager, and Kara Poole, Administrative Business Partner, accepted the Community Relations Excellence Gold Award on behalf of our Arvonia Quarry. This recognition comes in light of our Arvonia teammates' outstanding contributions to their community and how they've enhanced public awareness about their facility and the aggregate industry. Thank you, NSSGA, for the esteemed honor, and congratulations to all other award recipients. Check out pictures from their day with NSSGA President and CEO, Michael Johnson, NSSGA Chair Jim Nickolas of Martin Marietta and Albright Group Strategic Communications Business Strategist Sarah Huddle, APR! #BMC #aSummitMaterialsCompany #ROCKTober

In the heat of summer Emergency Responders at Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department Company 15 and Campbell County Public Safety visited our Lawyers Road Quarry for a mock extraction from our heavy equipment. The training opportunity allowed the emergency crews to focus on hazard training, risk assessments, and potential scenarios that may arise if we should ever need their assistance in the mine. We finished off the successful day by presenting both departments with our annual donation. Learn more about our commitment to safety: www.boxley.com/safety/ #BMC #aSummitMaterialsCompany

Physical Therapist Instructor Michael Palmer with Centra Health in Lynchburg, Virginia, came out earlier this year to refresh our teams on best practices utilizing ergonomics while on the job. This annual training for our maintenance and other team members in physically demanding positions is meant to ensure a quality of life after retirement. Additional training for fall safety was performed the same day, led by Patrick McGillivray, a specialist from 3M Corp out of Hampton, Virginia. This training is to give our teams the latest technology in the field. These days are spent refreshing on proper equipment use, inspection of equipment, and the best practices for using the right equipment for the job. Chief Todd Stone with the Bedford Fire Department manages the Fire and Police Training Center for the Town of Bedford, where all local fire and police, along with the Bedford County Sheriff's Department, train. Over the past decade, funding for their training facility has become scarce, creating an opening for Boxley to step up. Corey Orange, Boxley Blue Ridge Electrician, and Bedford Fire Department Lieutenant presented the recent aggregate donation. The stone from our Blue Ridge Quarry will upgrade their training center and driveway and allow the addition of a vehicle extraction training area. Boxley welcomes summer University interns and helps them gain valuable experience in the aggregate industry to give them a leg up in finding employment after graduation. Interns home base through the experience is where we believe will be the best fit based on their experience, education, location, and organizational needs. We caught up with Noah Neczyporuk and Landon Alex Plunkett before they headed back to school. Check out what they had to say about their experience. #BMC #aSummitMaterialsCompany Old Dominion University Noah Neczyporuk Landon Plunkett Virginia Tech

Boxley Blue Ridge Electrician and Bedford Fire Department Lieutenant Corey Orange participated in the annual Roanoke 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb this past Saturday. In their turnout gear, while carrying the badge of a firefighter or police officer killed on 9/11, participants climbed the Wells Fargo Tower stairs five times. Representing the 110 stories of the World Trade Centers. We’re honored to have someone like Corey on our teams and want to thank all fire responders for the selfless act they're performing every time they answer a call. Make sure to thank an emergency responder today. #BMC #aSummitMaterialsCompany
