Most of us do it. We work 5 days and get 2 days off. 2 days to relax, do all our OTHER work (you know, like non-work life), and if we are lucky, set aside a little time for fun. Then Monday arrives, and we grind through the next 5 to get to the next 2. Feels like a raw deal to us sometimes. Imagine if, there was fun in EVERY day. We think of "tug of war" every time we hear it: "Pull a report". Sounds like a battle. "I have to 'pull the data' from multiple system into a another system, and 'pull the report' into a separate doc (or worse, send to a designer) before I can 'push the button' to email it to my team, leadership, and the board." And precious hours and days of life are gone. Makes us want to "pull" our hair out. Just as you shouldn't have to "push" your data around, you shouldn't have to "pull" reports. Reports should just be there, always ready, automatically sent to those who need them. Imagine if your reports allowed everyone on your team to have a 360 degree view of operations and empowered them to make good things happen. Put down the rope - stop "pulling" reports. Once we were on a call with a new client. The Director of Development said, with genuine pain in her voice, "I had a nightmare about our data last night." She meant it. Our heart was breaking as we heard this. Data, this thing that's supposed to be a GIFT, a way to understand the experiences of people at a distance - the people they were trying to reach, to inspire, to activate, to help, had become a nightmare. Why? Their data was siloed in disconnected systems, full of errors, omissions, and duplicates. The goals of their data were poorly defined and the structure misaligned to the work.
