These Breakthroughs are BUMPIN'! 🎧🎵 During our post summer recess, our Breakthrough Miami (United Way Miami) central office became the location of a video shoot with PATH to Hip Hop's Mecca aka "Grimo", and award winning video producer, Michael Garcia, featuring our Breakthrough Miami Scholars! PATH To Hip Hop uses Hip Hop culture and education to advance scholarship, service-learning, leadership, and entrepreneurship across cultures and generations. Through Hip Hop, they are able to inspire, educate and entertain. 🎶 Our Scholars were guided by Michael Garcia in a masterclass of video production utilizing the power of creativity when dealing with little to no budget. This past year has been a truly pivotal time in Breakthrough Miami as we celebrated critical milestones, despite facing unexpected financial challenges. Strategic expansion has led us to serve more than 2,000 youth and families annually across three counties in more than half the zip codes across South Florida. An external comparative evaluation conducted by QQ Research concluded statistically significant evidence of Breakthrough Miami’s positive impact on student academic achievement as demonstrated through GPA, attendance, and enrollment in advanced courses. Prestigious accreditation by the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE) for outstanding volunteer management positioned Breakthrough Miami among the top 11% of non-profit organizations nationally. Perhaps less known, we also face an urgent funding challenge. Since 2021, Breakthrough Miami has received funding from the State of Florida, which has been instrumental in paving the path to expansion to provide exceptional educational opportunities to more underserved youth in our community. Due to a decreased State budget for 2024-25, Breakthrough Miami is impacted by a significant shortfall of $1,000,000. We are now faced with the challenge of mitigating this unexpected shortfall to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of our mission. Specifically, the lost funding jeopardizes our ability to provide essential services: School Bus Transportation for Scholars, Educational supplies, Meals, College Tour, Stipends for Summer Site Staff, Mental Health Support, and Specialized Career Pathway Programs. We are reaching out to our dynamic Village of supporters and partners, like yourself, to request your immediate investment. Your generosity has been a cornerstone of our success, and with your support, we can overcome this setback and continue changing lives and creating leaders. Our team at Mosaic Miami loved continuing our partnership with Breakthrough Miami in facilitating another impactful Breakthrough and Bridges Program. Thanks to the generosity of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, over 60 students got to hear and learn from some of Miami’s most brilliant thought leaders who tackle our city’s pressing challenges.
