It’s truly fantastic to discover how our complex brains work. Multiple studies now support and explore the phenomenon that the decisions about actions we perform (or even words we say) are made 2 seconds before we actually do anything. These really insightful things change the whole perspective on how we live.

Humans VS AI - Is AI going to take over? TLDR: I doubt that, and there is some supporting research. Have you noticed how repetitive and unexceptional some of this content feels? The tell-tale signs of generated text and images are always there and not that hard to notice. This shows that humans can recognize patterns and adapt—likely still faster than AI models. (Woo-ho, a win for humans!) But more importantly, this reveals a lack of diversity in AI-generated content. A 2023 study by researchers from Institut Polytechnique de Paris explains why this is happening. According to the authors, the world’s entire text supply equals about 17 trillion tokens. However, generative models like Meta’s Llama 2 require two trillion tokens for training. As a result, “we might be approaching the exhaustion of the world’s entire stock of usable language training data.” Therefore, newer models will inevitably be trained on a blend of human and AI-generated content, significantly decreasing the diversity of these models’ output. This is true for “low entropy” tasks like news summarization but is much more pronounced in output like creative stories. As this process is repeated, the diversity of AI-generated content continues to degrade. Wich is a big obstacle for an existing paradigm of scaling. Is it a promising sign for humanity? Kinda — AI will still eliminate many jobs, casting doubt on the future of corporate careers—but human beings are incredibly adaptable. Our ability to produce novel ideas “from thin air” might never be matched by AI. And it is just that oddly useful randomness which gives us a persistent advantage. Link: https://lnkd.in/dpjDfcXc
