Today, we celebrated the 100th graduate of the Housing Career Pathways program! 🎓 We marked this important milestone with a ceremony for our most recent grads, alumni and partners. Participants of the program’s seventh cohort received 4 weeks of full-time training on the affordable housing industry, digital skills, and job readiness, followed by an 80-hour paid internship to prepare them for a role in a crucially important sector. Since 2022, more than 30 affordable housing property management firms and employers have hosted interns or hired graduates from the program – and we continue to grow. We’re proud to be offering New Yorkers a launching pad to a new and exciting career while allowing them to meaningfully contribute to their communities. Thank you Enterprise Community Partners, NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development and New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) for your partnership and congratulations to all the graduates for their hard work! Celebrated the topping out of 737 4th Avenue yesterday...a momentous milestone given all this project has gone through to get to this point. During a fraught rezoning process, we ran right into a global pandemic, followed by a rapidly changing interest environment, but we let none of this deter us from what we set out to do when we started our company 7 years ago – which is to leverage the power of the market to create lasting benefits for the community. Access to affordable housing remains one of the greatest challenges facing our city today, so we are incredibly proud that, of the 187 units this project will create, 46 of those will be permanently affordable at an average of 48% of area median income – one of the lowest AMI averages achieved in the last five years in Brooklyn. Through his leadership at BWI and within NYC’s workforce development community, Aaron is a longtime advocate for economic justice and equity in our city. Congratulations, Aaron! 🎉

It was a privilege to hear Rabia speak on the experiences that led to her receiving BWI’s 2024 Inspirational Graduate Award on June 13th. New Yorkers like Rabia testify to the impact of BWI’s mission and purpose. After graduating from Red Hook on the Road, Rabia was hired by NYC School Bus and is fulfilling her dreams of a career that provides the independence she was seeking. We are delighted that her loved ones could join the BWI community in celebrating her award and we wish her many more accomplishments in the years to come. Congratulations Rabia! 

Last week, eight graduates from our Brooklyn Networks training program wrapped up a two-week crash course in fiber optic installation. This was a special pilot training aimed at boosting our past grads' career paths with new skills and support. Fiber optic installation is big in the job market now, offering good pay and ties into eco-friendly building projects. We're excited to see how our grads put their new skills to work in their careers!
