Miss our AI and Workflows: Leveraging Legal AI with Rules webinar yesterday? Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered! In the session, we explored how AI can genuinely enhance legal workflows — but only when it’s integrated thoughtfully. ⚖ Key takeaways: ✨ Control is key: AI must allow legal professionals to stay in control of processes. Rule-based workflows provide that essential structure. ✨ Beyond novelty: AI isn’t just for show. It’s about practical, scalable solutions like contract analysis, summarization, and document comparison. ✨ Start small: Maximize value by applying AI to repetitive, time-consuming tasks and then scale up. ✨ The future is AI-driven: AI is the next frontier for legal operations. Striking a balance between AI and human oversight will be critical. Co-hosted by Maximilian Paterson, Managing Director – US at BRYTER, and Nicola Shaver, CEO and Co-founder of LegalTech Hub, the session covered: ✅ Real-world use cases ✅ Live demo of BRYTER’s Extract Agent ✅ Practical steps for AI integration 🔗 Missed the session? 📣 We have some news! Yesterday, in NYC, we launched of our new data extraction and contract review tool, Extract Agent. Our Extract Agent combines LLMs with our own AI, expanding the range of use cases suitable for data extraction, by making it easier for legal teams to use this tech. Our AI reviews contracts or other documents (like court documents), extracts the required information and validates the data. This data can then be connected with our no-code platform to be used within workflows: for example in repapering or document generation. We loved the reaction in NYC yesterday and we're looking forward to hearing from more of our customers! Check out link in comments for more information. Legal AI Agents, including our AI Agents launched last month, automate the manual elements of legal work: from reviewing contracts to drafting email replies. They are like an incredibly efficient co-worker helping to free up capacity in your team. Over the past months, we’ve seen a lot of development in this space, which can be hard to keep track of. If you’re considering how Legal AI Agents might fit into your tech stack, be sure to check out Nicola Shaver’s latest article for LegalTechnology Hub which thoughtfully considers the key aspects of these new products including: ✔ How Legal AI Agents break down broad goals into smaller sub-tasks; ✔ Integrations with existing workflows; ✔ Differences between Agents and pure chatbots. Since about April 2023, we have written extensively about AI agents and their applicability in law, where workflows are king and tasks are rarely undertaken in isolation. Last week, the announcement of Spellbook's new product Spellbook Associate prompted us to dive back in, looking at some of the solutions in #legaltech using #AI agents to automate workflows for lawyers and exploring a definition framework for agents that might be useful for buyers seeking to evaluate and compare products on the market. Spellbook CEO Scott Stevenson has put forward the following definition: 🧠 For a product to be considered a true AI agent 🤖 it must have the following components - 1. Planning: Ability to take any arbitrary project and break it down into a plan 2. Execution: Ability to revise and cross-reference documents, and to do work across applications like Microsoft Word 3. Check Work: Ability to check it's own work 4. Adjust and Replan: Ability to replan if things go off the rails We have previously defined agents as follows: 💡 Artificial intelligence systems or programs that are able to achieve a goal or a set of goals by perceiving their environment, making decisions, and taking actions across applications or data sets, 💡 Not directly controlled by humans at each stage in a process, but instead directed by humans to achieve a goal, after which they autonomously determine the appropriate steps to take in order to reach that goal, 💡Able to adjust their behavior based on feedback loops in order to adapt the plan to better achieve a goal if the initial plan did not work well. Many sophisticated AI-enabled products in legal now leverage agents. Some of those covered in our update include: 273 Ventures - the proprietary Kelvin agent, built especially for legal Harvey - leveraging cutting edge agents to perform multiple full legal workflows BRYTER - launched its AI Agents product last month, tackling six different legal workflows and giving customers ability to build more Dioptra - an AI legal agent deployed for contract processes including negotiation, due diligence, and compliance Leya - leveraging agentic AI since September 2023 Also see Hebbia, Lawdify, Centari. Samuel Smolkin and Jake Jones, I'm pretty sure you are both building with agents in Office & Dragons and Flank respectively. Any other builders want to highlight their agentic solutions? Also curious to know where others weigh in on the definition of an AI agent. #GenAI #AIagents
