Last week, as the inaugural class of scholars at Uplift Heights Healthcare Institute kicked off their school year, team members from Uplift Education, Bloomberg Philanthropies and Baylor Scott & White cheered them on. These ninth graders will spend the year learning in the classroom and gaining hands-on experience in hospitals and clinics. We can't wait to see these future healthcare professionals grow! 🌟

When diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's, Luke Davis said that his “diagnosis is NOT a dead end—instead, it is an opportunity to make the most of life and living.” Three years ago, Luke Davis started to notice minor changes in his short-term memory. At the time, he was working as an attorney and was very active in his community and attributed forgetting things to either not paying attention or being too busy. After speaking with a neuropsychologist, he was officially diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s in 2023. Luke wasn’t going to let this diagnosis stop him though. He made the decision to retire and focus on his “new normal,” which focuses on a healthy and active lifestyle. His wife and him have worked to create “checks and balances” to help with his memory and he says the past year has been one of the best years of his life and his marriage. Our team is dedicated to going the extra mile for our patients, and this heartwarming story highlights just that. A patient at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple was terrified of losing his Chihuahua, Elliot, to Animal Control while he and his wife were in the hospital. He opened up about it to Cheyanna Bellinger, RN, BSN, SCRN, as they reviewed the treatment plan. The solution was heroic. The pup would spend the next few days with Cheyanna, her husband, their German shepherd and Saint Bernard. Read the full story here: https://ow.ly/10yz50SXSQ6

Teams across the Dallas-Fort Worth West Region love the chance to conduct Labor & Delivery simulations with Courtney Sundin, MSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, and her dedicated team at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth Andrews Women’s Hospital. Courtney’s passion for simulation training is evident as she recounts a remarkable case last summer where a rehearsed emergency simulation became a reality. Thanks to a well-practiced, collaborative effort, a patient who coded five times was saved and is now thriving, along with her child. This incredible case will soon be featured in the American Journal of Maternal Child Nursing. “These low-frequency, high-risk simulations are really going to happen. Adults learn with emotion and experience. If we can simulate that stress, fear and frustration in a safe environment, it vastly improves patient outcomes,” says Courtney. Courtney’s journey in nursing began in 2007, and she has continued to advance her education and impact in the field, now working toward her doctorate. Inspired by her mother, Sue, who celebrated 40 years in nursing in 2023, Courtney carries on the legacy of helping others. Join us in celebrating Courtney Sundin’s extraordinary contributions to healthcare! Read her full story here: https://ow.ly/Iga250SL8zO
