We’re firm believers that everyone deserves access to the benefits of the digital world. Research shows 1 in 11 people over the age of 65 have dementia in the UK and technology, including AI can help people navigate the digital world with dementia or cognitive disabilities. Recently, our CEO Allison Kirkby visited GHPS Sarjapur in Karnataka, India, to experience the Outdoor School for Girls program. This initiative, run by our charity partner Going to School, aims to teach digital and STEM skills through football to girls in government schools. The Outdoor School for Girls program aims to reach 180,000 girls in Grades 5-10 in Bengaluru and Mumbai over three years. The initiative combines STEM education, life skills, and sustainable enterprise training. In its final year, 100 girls will pitch their ideas to receive funding to start sustainable businesses to combat climate change. Upon arrival, Allison was warmly welcomed by Lisa Heydlauff, CEO of Going to School, and the school principal. She spoke with over 200 girls engaged in coding and football, supported by 25 BT Group volunteers from our Digital & Networks team. Allison interacted with the girls, discussing their impressive coding projects, and even joined them for a spirited football game! The visit concluded with a group photo and a special gesture from the girls, who presented Allison with signed football jerseys as a token of gratitude for BT Group’s support. #STEM #Digital #Volunteer
