Boba tea, also known as bubble tea, has gained international recognition beyond its origin in Taiwan. Unlike traditional teas with their tannic and bitter taste, bubble tea is popular for its sweetness and the unique combination of chewy boba and creamy dairy. In line with this, a New York startup, BUBLUV Inc, has introduced the first ready-to-drink bubble tea without added sugar. BUBLUV's tapioca pearls are made from a blend of konjac root and tapioca starch, offering a texture that is a cross between jelly and traditional tapioca pearls. This healthier alternative contains less than 50 calories per bottle and no artificial ingredients. The BUBLUV's bubble tea is further enriched with antioxidants like vitamin C. It is gluten-free, keto-friendly, and available in three delicious variants: Passionfruit Oolong Guava, Matcha Soy Latte, and Black Milk Tea. Furthermore, BUBLUV Inc aims to create tasty, convenient, and healthier Asian-inspired food & beverages. In parallel, Tealive, a Malaysian bubble tea brand, has opened its first North American location in Ottawa, Canada. The company plans to establish 50 locations across Canada over the next five years before potentially entering the United States market. Since its launch in 2017, Tealive has expanded to 800 outlets in Malaysia. Moreover, the company aims to reach 1,000 locations within two years, showcasing its aggressive growth strategy in Southeast Asia. As a result, bubble tea & beverages have garnered widespread commercial appeal globally. Their production, deeply rooted in historical and cultural contexts, is fueled by ongoing scientific innovation, leading to a continual evolution of flavors and ingredients.
