The power of a grandfather’s love can be transformative, spreading across generations, guiding a boy for a lifetime. 🍅 For some, the bond might grow through fishing trips or baseball games. For Cooper Tyksinski and Jerry Fratrik, it was farming — growing hundreds of tomatoes from seedlings into juicy, red fruits season upon season. 🍅 Cooper learned everything there was to know about growing — and selling — tomatoes from his “poppy” Jerry Fratrik. 🍅 This year, it was time to close the Doylestown Borough stand one final time. The news marked the end of an era not only for the Tyksinski family but for neighbors and friends across the community. 🍅 Writer Freda R. Savana shares the story of their unbreakable bond in this week's Herald. For that and more, visit buckscountyherald.com. 🍅 Please help us keep free, nonpartisan, local journalism alive in our community with a tax-deductible donation to support the work of our nonprofit newsroom. Your Herald is here! Believe it or not, the general election is just three weeks away. Inside this week's edition you'll find the Bucks County Voters Education Guide for the Nov. 5 General Election. This Voters Guide is compiled by the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania, and the Education Fund of the League of Women Voters of the United States, strictly nonpartisan organizations, to fulfill their longstanding commitment to promote an active and informed electorate. The Guide is printed as a public service to the Bucks County community by the Bucks County Herald. Neither the League nor the Bucks County Herald support or oppose any political party or candidate. Democracy functions best when representatives are responsive to the citizens and those who vote do their homework first. This Voters Guide may be taken into the voting booth. For that and so much more, visit buckscountyherald.com. #votersguide #bucksvotes #buckscountyvotes #buckscounty #buckscountypa #election2024 #beinformed #voteinformed #buckscountynews #communitynews #readtheherald

At 99, former longtime Bucks County newspaperman Sandy Oppenheimer has gone the distance. Newspapering, he said, is “an important job. You must get the facts right and it takes a tremendous amount of work to put out a good story.” And he certainly has a good story. Writer Peg Quann caught up with Oppenheimer Saturday at the annual 5K walk and run held before Newtown’s annual Market Day festival. Visit buckscountyherald.com for that story and more. #yourheraldishere #goodstory #newspaperman #goingthedistance #ontherun #buckscounty #buckscountypa #buckscountynews #community #communitynews #readtheherald #buckscountyherald #newspaper #communitynewspaper #communityjournalism #journalism #newsmedia #nonprofitnews #nonprofit #buckscountynonprofit #nonprofitnewspaper #buckscountyheraldfoundation #happytobehere #subscribetoournewsletters #bestoftheregion #bestof #readercontest #nationalnewspapersweek #newspapersweek #tellingourstories

This week, all of us at the Bucks County Herald are saluting Joe Ferry, veteran journalist and longtime supporter of local communities, who died Sept. 18. Ferry called himself a communicator. That’s what he had been since 1977, when he graduated from Eastern University in St. David’s, Delaware County. Joe Ferry will be remembered at the Herald as the skilled communicator he wanted to be and the calm, cheerful, capable colleague that he was. Take a look back at Joe's career with founding Herald Editor Bridget Wingert in this week's edition. #salute #career #careerjournalist #careercommunicator #buckscounty #buckscountypa #buckscountynews #community #communitynews #readtheherald #buckscountyherald #newspaper #communitynewspaper #communityjournalism #journalism #newsmedia #nonprofitnews #nonprofit #buckscountynonprofit #nonprofitnewspaper #buckscountyheraldfoundation #happytobehere #subscribetoournewsletters #bestoftheregion #bestof #readercontest

Your Herald is here! 📰&📱 At the back of the Newtown Depot shopping center, there’s a small shop filled with children’s clothing, toys and tote bags. This store doesn’t sell its colorful merchandise. Rather, it gives its inventory away in hopes that the children who receive these well-cared-for donations will prosper as they begin new chapters in their lives. In this week's Herald, writer Peg Quann introduces us to the newly formed Lower Bucks chapter of Fostering Hope, an organization that provides clothing and other necessities to families that provide foster homes to children. It also provides support that makes the fostering relationship a successful one for all involved. Visit buckscountyherald.com for that story and more.
