I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Idea Accelerator Builder at Builders + Backers!

Over the weekend, our own Marisa Vickers traveled to Brownsville, TX to help judge the Frontera Leadership Institute’s program at the E-Bridge Center. Can confirm that the entrepreneurial scene in South Texas is on the rise thanks to the leadership of many innovative thinkers and doers including: President + CEO, Cori Peña, and Vice-President of Entrepreneurship + Innovation, Nathan Alexander Burkhart of the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, Founder + Executive Director of LMNTS & Frontera Leadership Institute, Ruben Cantu, Founder + Executive Director of the Texas Venture Alliance, CS Freeland, and Executive Director of Social Weather, Leo Ramirez, Jr. Plus, a quick stop in Boca Chico to check out SpaceX, and the future of #spacetech innovation. 🚀 I’m super excited to share that Savanna Davis and I have been accepted into the Fall 2024 Idea Accelerator with Builders + Backers for the Tulsa area! We’ve been working on an app called Hobby Hop, and it’s all about helping people connect over shared interests and hobbies. The idea came about when I noticed my partner struggling to find a friend group to roller skate with. It got me thinking, "Wouldn’t it be awesome to have an app where folks can meet others who love the same things?" So, we decided to make it happen! We applied to Builders + Backers without knowing what to expect, and guess what? We got in! 🎉 Hobby Hop is going to be a social media platform where you can discover your passions, find new friends, and join community events—all through swipe matching and fun classes. Savanna and I are really looking forward to this journey and can’t wait to see where it takes us. We’re ready to dive in and get to work!
