In the competitive world of multifamily construction, speed, flexibility, and the ability to make timely, face-to-face connections are vital to completing projects on time and on budget. That’s where leveraging aviation has truly transformed how we do business, especially when operating outside of the Greater Los Angeles Area. I got my pilots license back in 2013 and followed it up with both complex and high-performance endorsements to allow for use of the Cirrus SR22 and high altitude performer the SR22-T. Since then, about 90% of my hours are in these aircraft. In 2024, Santa Monica updated the EV Charger Reach Code to comply with the 2024 CALGreen Mid-Cycle update, requiring a minimum percentage of parking spaces in new residential and nonresidential projects to have electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed or to be equipped with infrastructure to support future EV charging (see the table below for details). The new code follows CALGreen Tier 1 requirements. Our team at Fassberg encourages owners to really mash out a solid mandated and enhanced EV plan during our preconstruction phase to make sure execution of their infrastructure is on point and creates opportunities to maximize incentives and other opportunities. While increasing the availability of EV charging infrastructure to tenants and owners is a cost-effective way to support EV adoption, public facilities are also critical to supporting city growth. A variety of private companies such as EVgo, Electrify America and ChargePoint are taking advantage of incentives to help add needed infrastructure to cities like Santa Monica, such as the one seen here...coming soon to Broadway and Euclid.
