Multnomah County Health Department’s Community and Adolescent Health team had its first-ever spring break communications camp, an unqualified success that drew 60 students from 14 County high schools. Charlene McGee, director of Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion, envisioned Youth Positive Public Health Communications Camp as a way to “uplift young people’s voices and get messages about issues that are important to young people out to them in their own voice.” Camp attendance was nearly 100 percent over three days at Lloyd Center Mall in Northeast Portland. It was taught by staff from Community and Adolescent Health, Student Health Centers, Communications and Marketing; and partners The Numberz.fm (96.7) and Building Blocks 2 Success. I am so honored to have been part of such a wonderful and inspirational event, and edited this video as a way to sum up the meaning, the efforts and the growth we shared throughout camp. Enjoy!
