I wanted to take a moment and recognize a good friend of both me and the fire service. Steven Greene and The 5-Alarm Task Force have been there for us. Now it's time for us to be there for them. https://lnkd.in/ek7X4Rj6

The Petzl ASAP and ASAP LOCK can be used as a fixed belay attached to an anchor. However, its important to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. We’ve seen a lot of rescuers fail to pass the rope through a redirect at the anchor, which results in the ASAP failing to maintain the proper orientation. You can read the full Petzl Technical Notice regarding this setup at the link below (this picture is from the technical notice). https://lnkd.in/ej-qn-r6

🌟 October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month! 🌟 This month, let's shine a light on an important issue affecting many, especially in high-risk professions like firefighting. According to the National Fire Protection Association NFPA, sudden cardiac deaths have been a leading cause of fatalities, with 36 deaths reported in 2023, matching 2022. It's a reminder that we can all take steps to protect our heart health. Regular exercise and a nutritious diet are key! Let’s commit to healthier lifestyles and support each other in reducing these numbers. Together, we can make a difference! 💪❤️ #SCAAwareness #HeartHealth #HealthyLiving Note: "the increase in cardiac deaths in 2022 and 2023 was influenced by the expanded inclusion of cardiac deaths within 24 hours of duty." 📷: NFPA

"The first thing you have to get in your mind, is you want to learn more than just what they are teaching you at the fire department. And to do that you can step right out and go to your local library. You can read many things in a library. You can attend your department academy, county academy, State academy or the National Fire Academy. All of these offer great educational courses. But prior to starting, you have to determine, what you want to know. If you start out on a journey without a destination, you will never get to the destination." - Harry R. 🌟 Suicide Prevention Awareness Month 🌟 Join Chief Dena Ali today at 1 PM EST for an important webcast, "Addressing Suicide: A Proactive Approach to First Responder Mental Wellness." Viewers will learn the importance of proactive mental health as a means to combat the many mental health disorders that are common among first responders, including depression, addiction, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Tragically, when not addressed, the end result of each of these can be suicide. You will learn methods to prevent suicide by learning its traceable causes. Rather than focusing on individual risk factors, this webcast will explain how creating an environment to encourage help-seeking behavior can alter an individual’s trajectory from reaching suicide. Don't miss this opportunity to learn and support mental wellness in our community. **Register here:** [Webcast Registration](https://lnkd.in/evyDgb2W)

Being adaptable is growing with the situation and not just plugging in a fix to make it work because a textbook says so. Growth doesn’t come from perfection but from failure and having the ability to pivot and adjust as the situation changes. As mentioned in “The 5-Tool Firefighter”, we don’t like change or the status quo however it’s on us as fire service leaders to adapt to the changes of the organization and the world around us. In doing so, growth can be achieved. Enjoy the journey. #5toolfirefighter #fireservicewarrior #adaptable #pivot #firegrounddecisionmaking #adjustonthefly

Today I was fortunate enough to spend some time talking with my good friend Steven Greene at the 5-Alarm Task Force Corp. I am grateful that we were able to talk and share about topics that mean a lot to me. We had a great discussion about building relationships and getting info on buildings in design and construction to make sure things are built for us to operate efficiently and safely. It's important that firefighters know how to get info on new hazards/occupancies and prepare for them. Stay tuned for the release. I hope you like it. #buildingsystems #buildingfirefighterdevelopment
