Been a while since I added any new videos to the Builds by Dean YouTube channel. Here's a test build for my dual-extruder. https://lnkd.in/eggyHHaz

The final video in the series following the construction of my very first ratcheting screwdrivers is now live! https://lnkd.in/eGAcBuhG Those not familiar with Phoenix Contact or it's IFC group specifically, the major product that we support is molded cordsets with M12 connector heads, and that was the inspiration for these handles. The handle itself is a model of an M12 sensor connector that I modified for this purpose. I could have taken the blanks and turned them to a simple pattern by hand, but I thought it would be fun to try something more detailed and relevant for the team at work since these were their Christmas gifts this past year. I learned a lot about the processing of these handles throughout the builds. Firsts for me were: - Casting a large 2"x2" blank. - Turning those blanks to size without guides. - Creating and successfully running the CNC milling operation on my Snapmaker with rotary module with my own design using a new material. I previously only ran stock test pieces with test material supplied with the rotary module. - Polishing the acrylic with new multi-level polishing wheels. Each new process let me explore a new range of possibilities with the tools I have, and led me to some new tools that I didn't have before. I hope to take what I learned here to develop new designs of different levels of intricacy for a range of different end products (maybe lightsabers???). If you've been following along from the start or just seeing this now...thank you for watching Builds by Dean! #snapmaker #screwdriver #ratchet #gift

The next screwdriver build video is up: Part 3, Trimming and Drilling! After running the CNC milling process to bring out the detail in the screwdriver handle, the chuck grips needed to be cleared away and the holes for the screwdriver hardware needed to be drilled out. I took one chuck hold off on the lathe and gave myself a slight divot for the drill bit to land in. I marked the drill bits to depth with masking tape. This screwdriver needed two diameters drilled out. One smaller, but deeper, one is for the tool head to fit down through. The wider and more shallow one is for securing the hardware to the handle. The other chuck hold is taken off with a saw, and sanded flat after drilling. https://lnkd.in/eyxR_m6t #snapmaker #milling #cncmilling #screwdriver #drilling

Part 2 of the my ratcheting screwdriver build is now online on YouTube! This one shows the CNC machine turning out the detail for the handle. I'm using a Straight groove V-bit with the Snapmaker 2.0 with CNC module, and because of the size, it takes about 3 days to mill out one handle! https://lnkd.in/ej4zb6UN #snapmaker #milling #cncmilling #screwdriver

Finished up my first set of ratcheting screwdrivers for the guys at work. I have a few videos I'll be posting on YouTube showing these builds. The first is up now: https://lnkd.in/er_6Ap7b I cast blank acrylic stock to start the build, and I decided to turn those rectangular blanks down to a cylindrical shape to shorten the CNC process. #turning #acrylic #screwdriver
