Take a look at this insightful piece on the vital role sports play in supporting kids' mental health, especially during challenging times. This is why we are here, we understand the positive powers sports has and we are dedicated to providing opportunities for all youth to experience the positive impact of sports. Read more about the importance of accessible sports programs and how they can help our children thrive.
Sports offers lifelines for Kids' Mental Health. The pandemic was a challenging time, and in an article by Allison Torres Burtka, showed that participation in sports can help mitigate some of these stressors. Thankfully, those times are behind us, but it still offers some really important insights. It’s a great read with some fantastic organizations doing the groundwork. What the author really underscores is the importance of making a wide variety of sports accessible to all children. Here are some of the key takeaways from the article: • Youth who participated in sports during the pandemic reported lower levels of depression, loneliness, and self-derogation . • Sports participation declined for both boys and girls during the pandemic, but declines were particularly steep among Hispanic and Black youth, youth in urban areas, and 12th graders. • Programs that directly address mental health and create spaces can be especially beneficial for young athletes. • Expanding access to a wider variety of sports and encouraging sports sampling can help more kids find enjoyment and mental health benefits in sports. Build Through Sport is dedicated to providing opportunities for all youth to play sports and experience the positive impact it has on their mental and physical health. We can all play a role in advocating for and providing more sports opportunities for kids.

Don't Let Pressure Steal the Joy: Help Us Get Kids into Sports! A recent study by the AAP raises a concerning trend: 70% of kids quit organized sports by age 13, often due to the pressure to win and the "professionalization" of youth athletics. This can be particularly discouraging for disadvantaged children who might already face limited access to sports opportunities. At Build Through Sport, we believe differently. Sports offer so much more than trophies! They teach valuable life lessons like teamwork, perseverance, and a healthy lifestyle. For disadvantaged youth, these lessons can be especially empowering, fostering a sense of belonging and building self-confidence. Here's how we're making a difference: Removing Barriers: We provide scholarships and equipment donations to tackle the financial hurdles that prevent disadvantaged kids from playing. Promoting Fun: We are looking to partner with coaches and volunteers who prioritize enjoyment and development over winning, fostering a love for the game. Mentorship Matters: We plan to offer mentorship programs that provide guidance and support, helping kids navigate the challenges of sports and academics. You can be a part of the solution! Donate: Give a disadvantaged child the chance to experience the joy of sports. Every dollar counts! Volunteer: Share your passion for sports by becoming a coach or mentor. Spread the Word: Help us raise awareness about the importance of getting all kids involved in sports. We want to hear from you! What would have made sports more accessible for you as a child? Did you face any challenges getting involved in athletics? Share your story in the comments below! https://lnkd.in/g9JdVfkm #youthsports #nonprofit #donate #makeadifference https://lnkd.in/eQPFeJUR

As we wrap up #MentalHealthAwareness Month, we wanted to talk about something that makes a huge impact on athletes and teams, but is often overlooked; Empathy. Whatever role you may play in youth sport - coach, mentor, parent, guardian, sideline support - incorporating Empathy into your approach can help improve mental health and connection, as well as protect and maintain their love of the sport. #Empathy #BuildThroughSport #YouthSport

This article really hits home. Inflation is squeezing everyone’s budget, and it’s making youth sports less accessible, especially for families with lower incomes. Did you know a recent CDC study showed a drop in sports participation among kids aged 6 to 17, from 58.4% in 2017 to 53.8% in 2022? Youth sports are so important for building self-esteem, reducing stress, and teaching teamwork and leadership. How do you think we can make sure all kids get these benefits, even with rising costs? #YouthSports #Community #Health #Wellbeing #Nonprofit
This article is pretty interesting. “The meaning of the word "inflation" has changed. It used to mean rising prices; now it means "high prices”, really hits home, who isn't feeling this financial stress. The truth is though the rising cost of living is squeezing budgets everywhere, and youth sports continue to be or are now an out-of-reach option for many families. A recent CDC study highlights a troubling trend: children from lower-income families already participate significantly less than their wealthier peers. NSCH found that an estimated 53.8% of children aged 6 to 17 played on a sports team or took lessons as of 2022 — down from 58.4% in 2017, the first year the survey asked about sports participation Sports offer numerous benefits for a child's development, including building self-esteem, reducing stress, and fostering important life skills like teamwork, leadership, and discipline. What are your thoughts on the impact of inflation on youth sports? How can we work together to ensure all kids have access to the positive impact of sports participation? #youthsports #community #health #wellbeing Build Through Sport Sources: https://lnkd.in/e9Z3D8Ya https://lnkd.in/ecBrj8DK

At any and all levels, sport empowers and changes lives. Young adults and athletes have a myriad of challenges they face, and sport tends to create a safe space; a place of community, resilience, humility, and mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing. We are determined to guide and support even more individuals, of every ability, in their journeys to self-discovery and personal excellence. With Mentorship programs, speaking events and an Athlete Transition Network, the Build Through Sport team plans to do just that. 🤝 Join us as we break down barriers and make sport accessible to all.
