If you read my newsletter, you know I'm a development fanboy. To that end, I'm thrilled our team at Bullpen is helping Bridger Land Group find a Construction Accountant in Bozeman, MT. My favorite project from BLG's portfolio is Blackwood Groves - a 120-acre, master-planned community in Bozeman, MT. David Gordon and his team are investing heavily in family-friendly community spaces. From protected green space and trails for kids to get to school and restaurants in the "Village Square" -- this place is going to be an ecosystem. Drop me a DM if you're interested in the role - tag someone who might be interested.

Want to move to Bozeman? (ahem - Californians, listen up) We are sourcing candidates for a Construction Project Accountant in Bozeman, MT. You know that town in the Yellowstone series that looked so idyllic? That's the place. Our developer client has thrown in a sweetener - they are offering to house their new hire as part of the benefits package. Find the job posting on the Bullpen jobs page!

If you hire more than 5 people per year, this is going to be extremely relevant to you. TLDR; Brand matters, and when you elevate your brand perception with a talent acquisition campaign, you reduce your cost of hiring. #CREtalent

5 steps to courting candidates in an interview process ... number 4 isn't intuitive. 1. Plan the interview process, tell the candidate what it is, and stick to it. I recommend keeping it to 4 steps or less. 2. Sandwich technical components of the interview with team interviews. 3. Be personable, be kind. 4. Build in courting interviews - the objective is to sell the candidate on the opportunity. 5. Stick to the clock. We had a candidate pass on a role because a 30-minute interview turned into 2 hours … don’t do this.

THE secret to making a great first hire ... I've had a lot of great conversations recently about building development teams. Here's the TLDR; Your first hire will be either an analyst or project manager - the key is to hire for your weakness. Your 2nd hire will likely be an accountant to manage bank draws and project accounting. 3rd hire? Either an analyst (if you didn't hire one already) or an asset manager to support stabilized portfolio assets. Not included in the video - as the Principal, you will likely own fundraising for quite a while.
