President Biden's Investing in America's Agenda, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, has had a substantial impact on 2024 spring and summer projects in the 17 Western states. Here's how Reclamation is distributing that funding to communities, Tribes, and water users. “And we’re not done yet!” #Reclamation

About us
The Bureau of Reclamation (U.S. Department of the Interior) - Established in 1902, the Bureau of Reclamation is best known for the dams, powerplants and canals it constructed in the 17 western states. These water projects led to homesteading and promoted the economic development of the West. Reclamation has constructed more than 600 dams and reservoirs including Hoover Dam on the Colorado River and Grand Coulee on the Columbia River. Today, we are the largest wholesaler of water in the country. We bring water to more than 31 million people, and provide one out of five Western farmers (140,000) with irrigation water for 10 million acres of farmland that produce 60% of the nation's vegetables and 25% of its fruits and nuts. 🐶 Here is Koho, who you would never know was a bomb-detection dog! 😮 Reclamation has a wide array of partnerships. 🐶Reclamation partners with K9 police units to keep our water facilities and the public safe. 🐶 Dogs have vastly more sensitive smell than humans, 100,000 to 1 million times. 🐶Bomb-detection dogs are trained with constant repetition and reward to get their brains to recognize these smells. Next time you see a floppy-eared cutie like Koho, they may have one of the most important jobs. #BTW Bureau of Reclamation workforce is diverse and covers a broad range of different talents. Take a moment of relief ❄️ from a long, hot summer and watch as icy, cold water flows through Pole Hill Canal at a rate of 550 cubic feet per second. A part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, Pole Hill Canal sits nestled between Loveland and Estes Park, Colorado. The canal leads to Pole Hill Powerplant—one of six Reclamation-run powerplants in the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. Pole Hill Powerplant typically generates enough power for 19,000 households each year.

Reclamation hosted our quarterly Empowered Evolving Women of Reclamation (ERG) 'She Talks' event today. Commissioner Touton was the guest speaker and shared her experiences under the theme 'Where I've Been, Where I Am, and Where I’m Going.' “When you are in these positions of responsibility, I feel very strongly about being able to show up and represent you all in the way that you deserve. It is all of you [Reclamation employees]. It is our organization that helps make these things happen, and that's something we cannot forget.”- Commissioner Touton #EmpoweredWomen #Reclamation
