It was great to have volunteers from North Star Leasing, a Division of Peoples Bank help with our second round of gleaning at the Intervale Center. Thanks for your help and support harvesting over 300 lbs of Kale! This food will help support food insecure folks in our community.

It was great to hear from Mike Carrier on the value of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity. Rotary's commitment to including those from all backgrounds, that is how we build stronger connections and communities. It was good to remember what connects is far greater than what divides us. Thanks Mike!

More fun at the Intervale Center! Our crew gleaned over 280lbs of fresh vegetables for the Intervale's fair share CSA. It was hot and buggy but we had a fantastic time. Gleaning is one of the many awesome ways the Intervale supports our local food system. Gleaning is the process of going through a field and collecting leftover crops after the field has been commercially harvested. These crops may not look good enough to be on store shelves or they may be slightly bruised. But they are still edible! Gleaning increase the efficiency of the food system by making sure that leftover produce is utilized rather than tilled back into the soil.

We always have a blast working with Intervale Center! Summervale is always an amazing event, we are so lucky to be a part of it each summer. It is fun for the whole family! (We probably had TOO MUCH fun on the parking crew)

It was so awesome to have Jake Agna from Kids on the Ball come speak this week at our club meeting. Jake's organization hosts free tennis lessons for underprivileged kids throughout Vermont and the US. The organization has also done work in Cuba to promote and develop tennis internationally. Jake focuses on fun when introducing new players to the game of tennis. For 30+ years he has been handing out lifesavers as rewards for good behavior and winning points. Some of our members got some "savers" from Jake! Kids on the Ball is hosting a fundraiser on August 24th at the Burlington Tennis Club. Otherwise stop by Roosevelt Park in Burlington at 9:00 on weekdays in the summer to see Jake in action.

We had the honor of helping to fund the translation of these "Get Help Buying Food" videos into 18 languages. Broadening the reach of our local food system to many in our community for whom English is not their first language. We are continuing our Food Security Initiative.
