An international research group producing high impact multi-centre audit and research to improve patient care.
About us
The BURST Research Collaborative is an international research group comprising urological trainees, medical students, core surgical trainees, consultants, methodologists and basic scientists. The aim of the BURST Research Collaborative is to produce high impact multi-centre audit and research which can improve patient care. Why Join? To be a member of the BURST Research Collaborative all you need to do is email us. We will add you onto the emailing list. BURST mainly comprises Urological Registrars in the UK but we welcome junior members (e.g. Foundation Year Doctors, medical students) and international members as they may be involved in projects. If you do not have that much experience in research and are not an academic, don’t worry, the BURST Research Collaborative is ideal for you. This is a perfect opportunity for you to learn from members that do have that experience. Advantages of Trainee Led Research Producing high impact research as a single individual at a single centre in a short time span can be challenging. In the conception, design and execution of a study there are many tasks and the workload can be shared amongst members of a group. A research collaborative allows the exchange of ideas and skills between different members allowing higher quality research to be produced and allows the development of research competencies amongst the members of the group. Some of these competencies are required for achievement of CCT. To produce appropriately powered high impact studies with high numbers of patients in a short time span, a research collaborative if often necessary.

Congratulations to the WASHOUT team from British Urology Researchers in Training (BURST) who been awarded a #grant by The Urology Foundation part supported by @charlesreynoldsfoundation. This multicentre observational study will evaluate for national and international variation of inpatient management of #haematuria, inform a consensus guideline for best practice and provide evidence to design an interventional study that can optimise #haematuria management pathway. The Charles Reynolds Foundation is proud to support his efforts and looks forward to the contributions this research will bring to the field.https://https://lnkd.in/eDF2mbpB

An excellent resource for ANYONE who wants to learn more about assessment and management of patients in all areas in urology. Was a pleasure to support British Urology Researchers in Training (BURST) recording our session on overactive bladder The British Association of Urological Nurses (BAUN)
We are reflecting back on our biggest #BURSTatBAUS programme ever! BURST have come a long way over the years thanks to the support of our committee, collaborators and funders. 💡 Our Co-Chairs Arjun Nathan and Kevin Byrnes introduced BURST during our session “Big Data, AI and International Collaboration” on day 1, chaired by Jo Cresswell and Kevin Gallagher. We focussed on the timely topic of AI in urology featuring a keynote by Prof Nikhil Vasdev alongside our presentation of the #RESECT results, the largest dataset on TURBT quality with nearly 20,000 patients. We continued the excitement this sparked in our panel "Will this change the way we do #TURBT forever?,” led by study leads Kevin Gallagher and Nikita Bhatt alongside our star-studded panel of Veeru Kasivisvanathan, Prof Param Mariappan, Elsie Mensah and John Kelly. 🥂 There was no better way to round off the first day than with the annual BURST dinner, proudly supported by medac Pharma UK where we welcomed our amazing project collaborators. 🩸“Emergency Inpatient Haematuria - Time for Change!" chaired by Kevin Byrnes and Nikita Bhatt on day 2 saw the introduction of our latest and greatest project #WASHOUT, investigating the management of inpatient haematuria, with fantastic discussion in our quickfire MDT providing insights on CEPOD management, hyperbaric oxygen, oncological management, interventional radiology and surgical management. This wealth of expert knowledge was put to the test in our round-table discussion with our chair Ben Challacombe pitching clinically relevant cases. ❗️Data collection for #WASHOUT is open. With 300+ sites and 600 cases and counting, sign your site up today https://lnkd.in/epbe-TAb Tuesday also saw Arjun proudly present at the “The Urology Foundation: Show Me the Money” session. We were delighted to attend and are immensely grateful for TUF’s long standing support. 🚀 There was no better way to end our programme than with our final session featuring a pair of debates on controversial areas in urology, chaired by Veeru Kasivisvanathan and Hannah Warren. The first quick-fire debate saw Milan Gopal head-to-head with Caroline MacDonald for the motion "Improving the Pathway in Testicular Torsion in the UK: More than a Pipe Dream?". This generated a wealth of discussion and relates to our #RESCUE study. Our second debate saw the motion "Anticoagulation in The Postoperative Period: How Do We Get the Balance Right?" debated by Kari Tikkinen and alexandra colquhoun. Accompanying this was an introduction to the ARTs trial by Alex Ng. 🎥 We filmed a series of educational vodcasts- a first in BURST history! We thank our guests Nicholas Boxall, Sarah Hillery, Eabhann O'Connor, Sophia Cashman,Mehwash Nadeem, Arjun Nambiar and Prof. Dr. Hashim Hashim for sharing their expertise. Keep your eyes out for the release very soon! 🎉 Thank you to BAUS for their support in taking the BURST programme to new heights, see you at BAUS 2025!
