Our new bags (pictured above) are made from FSC-certified paper, making it easier to recycle and better for the environment. As Burton progresses on our clean chemistry journey, we look to science-based organizations, peer brands, and supply chain experts to address our impacts and to reimagine snowsports’ relationship with chemicals. Burton joined the steering committee of the Clean Chemistry and Materials Coalition from the Outdoor Industry Association to learn and share resources on chemicals management best practices. The mission is to break trail in innovation and adoption of safer chemicals that deliver functional, durable, and trustworthy materials and products to our customers. "I think that Craig would be proud that every new board that comes out of our new R&D space reflects his spirit and legacy." - Jake Burton Carpenter Today, we proudly celebrate the 13th anniversary of Craig's, our 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art proto shop and R&D lab located at #BurtonHQ and named in honor of Craig Kelly. To commemorate the occasion, we produced 13 limited edition boards to be given away to our Tier 3 First Chair Loyalty members. Designed by #BurtonEmployee Norm Thibault, an R&D Mechanist who's worked at Craig's since it opened, the board's graphic is a tribute to Craig. The Raven represents the seven lives lost in the backcountry of the Selkirk Mountains and reminds us of Craig's presence and spirit. At the entrance of Craig's, on top of an original snowboard press, there's a metal sculpture of a raven to remind us that Craig is always watching and inspiring everything we do. A repairable jacket is a more sustainable jacket. ♻️ When we set the intention of keeping more gear out on the hill (and out of the landfill), our product designers got with the waste reduction experts at Rugged Thread Outerwear Repair. Thanks to this partnership, Burton is getting closer to achieving our goal of a 50% global repair rate for warrantied apparel. A recent example: Burton jackets now feature a zipper panel that’s much easier to replace. This task used to take at least a half day. Today, it only takes a half hour. Since repair is more accessible than ever, we hope you’ll take us up on our warranty program when you need it. So you and your gear can enjoy many well-loved years of adventure. Designing for repairability is just one of the ways we’re incorporating circularity principles into our supply chain. Last week, we wrapped up the 4th annual Culture Shifters event in Aspen, CO. The event brings together 150 people – pro riders, artists, musicians, nonprofit and grassroots leaders, doctors, and more. We gather with two clear goals in mind: 1) Enable BIPOC riders (new to the sport and pros alike) to share the joy of snowboarding and to spread the joy to friends, families, and new riders. 2) Enable industry leaders to listen and learn from BIPOC, and to get inspired to address the systemic barriers to participation in the outdoors for BIPOC. Under the leadership of visionaries Zeb Powell (Burton Team Rider) and selema masekela (Burton Board Member & Brand Ambassador) Culture Shifters also highlights nonprofit and grassroots organizations who work year-round to empower BIPOC in the outdoors to event attendees. This year, we worked with Black Boarders CT, Black Girls Shred, Chill Foundation, Colorado Blackpackers, Colour the Trails, EDGE Outdoors, Hoods to Woods Foundation, Melanin in Motion, Native Youth Outdoors, Ski Noir 5280, and Unlikely Riders. A massive thank you to these organizations who are leading the way in shifting the culture of snowboarding to a sport for all. The work is just beginning, and so is the fun!
