Aligning Business with the Long-Term Health of Society
About us
Founded in 1998, we work with business executives and scholars to align business decisions and investments with the long-term health of society—and the planet. Through carefully designed networks, working groups and focused dialogue, the Program identifies and inspires thought leaders and “intrapreneurs” to challenge conventional ideas about capitalism and markets, to test new measures of business success and to connect classroom theory and business practice. The Business and Society Program is most known for the First Movers Fellowship Program, for dialogue on curbing short-termism in business and capital markets, and for fresh thinking about the purpose of the corporation. Just in time for #ClimateWeekNYC, check out these key insights from this past July’s Aspen ESG Summit: https://lnkd.in/dt3FvZ_T The hard work continues for every sustainability leader and we are eager to see how momentum from July is carrying over now. Climate Week’s theme is, “It’s time.” This push for action is welcome, but we also know that urgency means different things depending on where you sit. So, we are eager to hear from you—what will you be listening for at Climate Week? What feels most urgent from your perspective? We asked a few friends what they are listening for to get us started. Add your comments below! Mark Steen, Vice President, Sustainability and Climate Initiatives, Corning Incorporated: My two questions are 1) Do companies think (yet) that European Sustainability regulations (CSRD, CSDDD, Taxonomy, etc.) will change the way they operate, or only what they report? 2) Who is paying a green premium? For instance, are the increasing efforts of governments to put a price on carbon (e.g., CBAM, ETS schemes) resulting in producers capturing value from low-carbon products? Kaja Pergar, Vice President, Responsible Investing, Blue Owl Capital: We are listening for 1) strategies for building a climate risk management program that is decision-useful and stands the test of time and 2) Techniques for assessing the likelihood and effects of specific climate risks in alternatives investing. Witold Henisz, Vice Dean and Faculty Director, ESG Initiative at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania: How is the progress touted at the Aspen ESG Summit on the hard work of ESG integration with more rigorous methods, alternative data and impact really progressing?
