With just a few days until COP16 Colombia, are businesses and governments turning the tide on #NatureLoss? 🌱 In 2022, 196 countries adopted the historic #GlobalBiodiversityFramework, a roadmap for how to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. Whilst businesses and governments are taking action to reverse this trend, much more needs to be done. In the countdown to #COP16Colombia, we’ve developed an infographic exploring business and policy progress, highlighting that: 🌎 Less than half of governments (44%) have published their updated NBSAP or national targets. 🌎 230+ companies with revenues of $1.7 trillion are calling on governments to accelerate implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework. The momentum #ForNature is growing but many companies still lack a deep understanding of their dependencies on #Nature - a critical gap that must be addressed. At #COP16, we need businesses and governments to work together through ambitious and radical collaboration. With COP16 Colombia beginning next week, are businesses and governments turning the tide on #NatureLoss? 🌱 In 2022, 196 countries adopted the historic Global Biodiversity Framework, a roadmap for how to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. Since then, progress has been made, including that 450+ organizations have committed to disclose their nature-related issues to investors using Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) recommendations. However, much more needs to be done. At #COP16, we need: 🌎 Governments to strengthen policies that incentivize #NaturePositive actions and hold businesses accountable. 🌎 Businesses to scale up actions to protect, restore and sustainably use nature to contribute towards a nature-positive economy for all by 2030. 🌎 Business and governments to work together through ambitious and radical collaboration. "Through a unique innovative process of global market participation, the TNFD recommendations have now been published and over 450 organizations have already committed to start nature-related corporate reporting." - Tony Goldner, Executive Director, Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eP5BPnTb

How does COP16 Colombia present a historic opportunity for businesses and governments to turn the tide of #NatureLoss? 🌎 In a recent article for World Economic Forum (WEF), our CEO Eva Zabey explores how #COP16 is the world's best chance to commit to meaningful action towards the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework's goal of halting and reversing nature loss by 2030. At COP16, there is a crucial need for: 🌱 Governments to set ambitious national plans and adopt policies and regulations that will incentivize businesses to take action, with just under half of governments (44%) having currently updated their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) or national targets since COP15. 🌱 Business leaders to encourage policy-makers to change the rules of the economic game in nature's favor. Whilst more than 25 companies have now developed and published credible nature strategies through the 'It's #NowForNature' campaign, corporate investments in activities that restore nature are dwarfed by the $5 trillion in private finance that still directly harm ecosystems. "To deliver on the ambition set at COP15, the UN Biodiversity COP16 must be the moment where bold leadership and radical collaboration between policy-makers and business leaders usher in a new era of nature-positive action." - Eva Zabey GSK, Kering, L’OCCITANE Group, Natura &Co, Ørsted 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ev9suQTX

📢🌱 Nature is everyone's Business! A new report by WWF is calling a code red for nature. The message is clear - we must turn the tide on #NatureLoss this decade. 🚨 #BREAKING: This is a code red for nature. Species population numbers have plummeted by 73% on average since 1970.  This is getting worse over time, when it should be getting better. Vital ecosystems are on the brink of collapse. We’re dangerously close to tipping points, where the damage to our planet will cause irreversible impacts on all our lives. We must turn things around immediately. Urgent action is needed now – not tomorrow or next year. 🗣 Share this video to #ActForOurPlanet. https://lnkd.in/d-ESAMH #LPR2024 #LivingPlanetReport

“The battle against nature loss is a shared responsibility.” - Mark Gough, CEO, Capitals Coalition We all rely on #Nature, but nature is in crisis, with #Biodiversity declining at an alarming rate. Progress has been made since the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework by 196 governments in 2022, but much more needs to be done in terms of policy progress and business action progress. We've produced an infographic, highlighting shortfalls in progress, including: 🌎 $2.6 trillion being spent on environmentally harmful subsidies (EHS) in 2024. 🌎 $5 trillion of private finance directly harming nature vs $35 billion nature investment. We're urging governments and businesses to do more to reverse #NatureLoss. This is the race of our lives. We now need exponential, decisive and collaborative action at COP16 Colombia and beyond. 🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/COP16info

How can the financial services sector contribute towards a #NaturePositive future? 🌱 More than half of the global GDP is estimated to be moderately or highly dependent on #Nature. As allocators of capital, the finance sector is critical to shifting financial flows towards a nature-positive economy. However, the sector has significant impacts on nature. Financial services companies should direct their efforts towards addressing the most significant impacts on nature in their operations and value chains, namely: 🌎 Land and sea use change. 🌎 Over-exploitation of natural resources. 🌎 Pollution. 🌎 Climate change. 🌎 Invasive alien species. To support this transition, guidance developed by Planet Tracker in collaboration with Business for Nature, the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the World Economic Forum outlines the sector-specific actions to ensure the financial services sector plays its part in halting and reversing #NatureLoss by 2030. 🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/3rVLost
