Hotel security personnel play an important role in identifying and preventing human trafficking, as they protect staff and guests. In order to do this, security needs training to learn how to safely respond to these cases. AAHOA’s North Texas Region hosted its Charity Golf Tournament for 2024, which raised about $60,000 for five charities, including BEST. Trucker Path is an app designed for truckers to find truck stops, weigh stations, and GPS directions. It is now adding a feature on the app for truckers to be able to report signs of human trafficking while on the road. The new feature will find the location of the trucker and direct them to local resources. #EndHumanTrafficking

The event took place on October 9th at Bellevue City Hall in collaboration with the Bellevue Police Department to train hoteliers on how to identify human trafficking within the hospitality industry. In Pennsylvania, the Office of Attorney General introduced a new Human Trafficking Section to help prevent exploitation. At a recent policy committee hearing, the section addressed various strategies in preventing human trafficking such as stricter penalties for buyers, putting more focus on labor trafficking, and prioritizing the expansion of accessible resources. https://lnkd.in/ggtHUtfF #EndHumanTrafficking

Sponsored by the City of Bellevue’s Human Service Program, the Inhospitable to Human Trafficking training teaches hoteliers in recognizing and reporting human trafficking signs. A survivor of human trafficking discusses how the new Trafficking Survivors Relief Act can help survivors like her get a fresh start in this op-ed piece. She explains how having a criminal record that included charges that happened while she was forced in a life of human trafficking, caused her to be rejected for employment and hindered her ability to rebuild her life after exploitation. This new bill was introduced to Congress this year. If passed, it can help clear federal charges, empowering more survivors of human trafficking to forge a new path in life. #EndHumanTrafficking 

The American Hotel & Lodging Association voiced their support in the new Halting of Trafficking and Exploitation in Lodging Act, also known as HOTEL ACT. The HOTEL Act encourages federal workers that are on business trips to stay with hotels that have anti-human trafficking programs. To meet the conditions of the HOTEL Act, hotels must train their staff with human trafficking prevention training programs like BEST’s Inhospitable to Human Trafficking training, which meets all the requirements. #EndHumanTrafficking #HotelManagement #Hospitality 

Human trafficking can easily go unnoticed in public facing workplaces because of a lack of awareness. To bridge this gap, BEST is launching our new BEST Basics course in September. This 30-minute, video-based training can be used by any business. It addresses sex trafficking and labor trafficking, and clearly explains how employees can identify human trafficking, safely report it, and support victims.
