A backdoor in xz/liblzma, a widely-used compression tool, has the cybersecurity world on high alert. CISA has just dropped urgent guidance in response to this sneaky supply chain attack, CVE-2024-3094. #1: The backdoor made its entrance in xz version 5.6.0 on Feb 24, 2023. #2: It messes with the SSH server, paving the way for unauthorized access via SSH. #3: Various Linux Distros are affected. What's really got folks talking is the sheer commitment of the adversary, believed to be a developer with two years under their belt. This move has folks split: Was it a rogue insider move, or did someone compromise the developer's account? The takeaway? In the shadowy world of cyber threats, there's no one-size-fits-all shield.
