Understanding design trends allows us to develop inspirational spaces that connect people with their homes and create an impression for visitors. Welcome to the design style Grandmillennial. A microtrend within Maximalism where the design philosophy emphasizes “more is more,” Grandmillennial celebrates everything that reminds us of our grandmothers—antiques, doilies, needlepoint, gardening and more. The term Grandmillennial unites two different generations—grandparents and millennials. It blends vintage, traditionally classic elements with contemporary flair to create cozy, charming and inviting spaces. Elements may include vintage-inspired decor, printed patterns, heirloom furniture and a touch of nostalgia. This mix of old and new creates a timeless yet contemporary aesthetic. Explore Grandmillennial-inspired spaces and learn how to create this warm and delightful haven in your home. #DesignTrends #Maximalism #Grandmillennial

Staying attuned to design trends is crucial for successful product innovation, especially in the kitchen space. Dark Academia, as a Maximalism microtrend, beautifully intertwines the pursuit of knowledge with a sense of nostalgia and scholarly romanticism, creating an enchanting atmosphere of gothic and old-world charm. In kitchens and other spaces inspired by this aesthetic, rich color palettes of burgundy, deep blue, black and browns set a sophisticated backdrop. Luxurious fabrics like velvet, leather and heavy wool add warmth and depth. Vintage items play a crucial role, evoking a sense of history and scientific study. Bookshelves and glass displays are often used to showcase not only literary treasures, but also curated design pieces, hobbies and artwork. The overall design fosters an environment that exudes sophistication and intellectual engagement. Step into this Dark Academia-inspired space, and you'll feel the mystique and elegance. #DesignTrends #Maximalism #DarkAcademia

Design trends influence the emotional atmosphere of a room. Maximalism, characterized by its “more is more” philosophy, evokes joy and comfort through the use of colors, shapes, tones and textures. Within the maximalist trend, one notable microtrend is Deco Revival. Deco Revival reimagines the opulence and elegance of the Art Deco era, bringing a luxurious and sophisticated feel to a space. This microtrend celebrates bold geometric patterns, elegant textures and a rich color palette, reminiscent of the glamorous 1920s and 1930s. In Deco Revival, you’ll find signature elements including blends of ornate detailing and sleek, modern lines, statement lighting fixtures, and a mix of materials like velvet, brass and marble. Together, these design features radiate timeless elegance and refinement while still embracing the eclecticism and comfort that define maximalism. For Deco Revival inspiration, check out this beautiful kitchen curated by our trends and innovation team. #DesignTrends #Maximalism #DecoRevival

Home design is a vibrant tapestry where culture, trends, functionality and personal expression intersect. Tressa Samdal, Director of Trends and Innovation at Cabinetworks Group, and her team explore how the macro trend of creative expression manifests in the overarching design trend Maximalism. This “more is more” approach, a departure from the streamlined Minimalism, embraces the freedom to express oneself through bold combinations of colors, shapes, tones and textures. Maximalism celebrates joy and eclecticism to create spaces that are rich with personality and warmth. It offers homeowners a way to display their cherished pieces, collections, or hobbies, creating unique and vibrant spaces. Maximalism embraces self-expression and personalization through bold colors, statement pieces, mixed pattern and greenery. It also includes darker, moodier styles like Dark Academia. Whether vibrant or moody, Maximalism is becoming mainstream, with once-niche styles gaining wider attention. Within the broader Maximalism trend, we see three microtrend styles: Dark Academia, Deco Revival and Grandmillennial. For a deeper dive into Maximalism, be sure to download our PDF, and stay tuned for more updates on these microtrends. #DesignTrends #Maximalism

This month, it was our pleasure to host 45 talented kitchen designers for an engaging tour of our three Ohio manufacturing facilities. Designers received a behind-the-scenes understanding of the entire cabinetmaking process, interacted with the skilled artisans who build our cabinetry, and even tried their own hand at some of our specialty finishing techniques. Designers also sharpened their skills during a training session on 2020--the software program they use to design, plan and visualize spaces for their clients. The entire event was a great opportunity to share insights, listen to customers, learn from each other, and enjoy some relaxed camaraderie over dinner. We'd like to say THANK YOU to the designers who spent time with us. We were honored to host you, and we appreciate all that you do to help us build life into the kitchen!

Cabinetworks Group still on the road with our “Think Differently - Design Beyond the Predictable” roadshow, where our design and trend experts are connecting with designers and customers nationwide. This roadshow explores the evolution of the kitchen, delves into style and color trends, and showcases innovative cabinetry solutions for transforming spaces both in the kitchen and beyond. Our recent stop was in Columbia, Maryland, from August 20-21. Set against the serene backdrop of Lake Kittamaqundi, conveniently positioned between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., the event was a vibrant two-day experience filled with insightful conversations, design ideation and plenty of laughter. Thank you to everyone who attended! We’re gearing up for more stops on our roadshow, including Long Island (September 24-25), Charleston, South Carolina (October 15-16) and Nashville (October 23-24). Designers interested in joining us at any of these upcoming events should reach out to their Cabinetworks Account Manager for more details. We look forward to seeing you on the road and exploring new design possibilities together!

Design trends can transform a home into a personalized living space. Minimalism – the art of living with less – has inspired a microtrend called Relaxed Mod, which brings both function and fun to your living space. Relaxed Mod is a relatively new trend in home design, merging the playful elements often found in kids’ rooms with the architectural aesthetics of minimalism. Unlike the stark, sometimes impersonal feel of strict minimalism, Relaxed Mod embraces a playful use of “almost” primary colors, using a variety of shapes to create a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. The result is a modern look that’s both inviting and functional, featuring color blocking and simple forms that enhance the space without overwhelming it. Want to stay ahead of the latest trends? Check out this beautiful kitchen, selected by our trends and innovation team as a prime example of Relaxed Mod.
