Had another fantastic mentoring event this past weekend on behalf of The One Club For Creativity Denver. We had 10 outstanding mentors and 11 bright and talented students from Arapahoe Community College. Huge thanks to our returning mentors, Jennifer Lester, Christopher Chapman, and Christian Robins, and our new mentors, Olaf Richter, Daniel Smith, Go Wakimoto, Steph (Langan) Strange, Rachel Morgan, Christina Erb, and Dillon Snyder. Also big shoutout to Jason DeWitt for snapping pics, Jeff Graham and Cactus for letting us host the event in your amazing office, and Hall, John for helping to organize.

Cactus is a proud Colorado agency and for Black History Month we wanted to celebrate the stories of several black historical figures who've made a major impact on our state and the world. 1. Lt. Col. John Mosley (1921-2015) - One of the original Tuskegee Airmen and a Denver native. He was among the first Black students to play football at Colorado State University and later became one of the first Black pilots in the U.S. Air Force. After his military service, he worked as a special assistant to multiple Colorado governors and was instrumental in promoting civil rights and equal employment opportunities in the state government. 2. Dr. Justina Ford (1871-1952) - She was Colorado's first licensed Black female doctor and practiced medicine for over 50 years in Denver. Despite facing discrimination, she delivered over 7,000 babies and treated patients of all races, nationalities, and economic backgrounds during a time of severe segregation. She was known as "The Lady Doctor" and provided care to many who were turned away from other medical facilities. 3. Barney Ford (1822-1902) - Born into slavery, he escaped via the Underground Railroad and became a prominent businessman and civil rights pioneer in Colorado. He built and owned multiple successful hotels and restaurants in Denver and Breckenridge, including the famous Inter-Ocean Hotel. Ford was also a key advocate for Black voting rights in Colorado and helped ensure that Black suffrage was included in Colorado's state constitution when it joined the Union.
