I work with titans in the ERP space. It’s an amazing privilege to learn from them. And you should be able to learn from them too. That’s why I’ve distilled their 40+ years of combined experience into one post: 1. Embrace change as a path to growth. Implementing an ERP system means rethinking how your business operates. There will be adjustments along the way, but each change is a step toward a more streamlined, efficient future. 2. Accept that complexity is part of the journey. Every ERP rollout comes with its twists and turns—from unexpected tech challenges to aligning different teams. Each hurdle is an opportunity to learn and improve your processes. 3. Integration takes time, so be patient. Bringing together various business functions into one cohesive system won’t happen overnight. Early growing pains pave the way for a more connected and agile organization down the road. 4. Focus on what truly matters for your business. It’s easy to get distracted by the latest features and fancy add-ons. Prioritize a system that aligns with your core needs and drives real results, rather than chasing every new trend. 5. Mastery comes with persistence and learning. No one becomes an ERP expert instantly. Allow yourself and your team the time to learn, adapt, and grow through trial and error. Every step forward builds confidence and competence. 6. Go-live is just the beginning. Reaching the go-live milestone is a huge win—but it’s only the start of your ERP journey. With ongoing training, tweaks, and process improvements, your system will continue to evolve along with your business. 7. Empower your team by sharing the load. You don’t have to solve every problem on your own. Identify team members who are eager to lead and provide them with the support they need. Delegating effectively not only eases your workload but also builds a stronger, more capable team. 8. True leadership is shown through actions. In the midst of change, look for those who naturally step up and guide others—regardless of their title. These are the individuals who make a real difference and help drive your project forward. 9. Sometimes, saying “no” is the best decision. Avoid feature creep and over-customization by focusing on the core functionality that adds real value. Saying no to unnecessary extras can keep your implementation on track and under budget. 10. Stay flexible and be open to evolution. If your ERP system isn’t meeting emerging needs, consider optimizing your current setup before deciding on major changes. Often, small adjustments can lead to significant improvements.
