Women in California continue to experience significant gender disparities, particularly in employment, earnings, and political representation, with women of color facing the most severe inequalities. While women have achieved some progress over time in certain areas, some women’s issues have worsened over time. State leaders need to address the persistent regional disparities in well-being, particularly in rural and underserved areas, to ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for all women. To improve health and economic security for women, especially those from marginalized communities, California must implement systemic reforms that address the declining trends in prenatal care, mental health, and economic support. ⚡ Explore more in our latest iteration of the Women's Well-Being Index: https://lnkd.in/gUFkAdJF

About us
The California Budget & Policy Center (Budget Center) is a nonpartisan, research and analysis nonprofit committed to advancing public policies that improve the lives of Californians who are denied opportunities to share in the state’s wealth and deserve the dignity and support to lead thriving lives in our communities. We highlight inequities in our state — specifically in budget choices and public policies affecting low and middle income households, women, immigrants, American Indians, Asian, Black, Latinx, and Pacific Islander Californians, as well as other Californians of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ Californians — and identify policy pathways that expand economic opportunities and promote well-being for all Californians. The Budget Center is leading the way forward on the policy and budget paths needed now and in the years to come for Californians, and is a trusted source for policymakers, advocates, community and philanthropic leaders, and the media navigating California’s most pressing issues. We provide dependable, timely, policy guidance and solutions through our independent research and analysis, and engage in strategic collaborations and communications to expand equitable economic opportunities and promote well-being for all Californians.

This means that approximately 7.3 million residents are struggling to make ends meet. The pandemic proved that federal and state leaders have the tools to significantly reduce poverty. California Budget & Policy Center reposted this
New data from the state of California reveals that crime rates remain significantly lower than the peaks seen in the 1980s and 1990s. It is clear that there is no need to resurrect the ineffective policies of the past, which were centered on incarceration. These outdated approaches have proven to be counterproductive and have not addressed the underlying issues. It is imperative to adopt more progressive strategies that focus on rehabilitation and addressing the root causes of crime. Thank you California Budget & Policy Center for sharing this data. https://lnkd.in/dZu3knqg

Proposition 35: What You Need to Know Medi-Cal is essential for over one-third of California's population and plays a crucial role in promoting health equity. However, California’s shortage of health care workers continues to impact the availability and quality of care. While Prop. 35 could provide dedicated funding for these health care needs, it could also limit flexibility in the state budget, potentially affecting other vital services for Californians. ⚡ Our latest report from Kayla Kitson and Adriana Ramos-Yamamoto, MPH offers a deeper look into the implications of Prop. 35. https://lnkd.in/g8CDxCJS

Crime rates are significantly lower than historical highs, even as trends show a modest increase compared to record lows. “Voters should be skeptical of efforts to use the ballot box to roll back justice system reforms by reinstating the costly and ineffective mass incarceration policies of the past,” warns our budget director, Scott Graves. ⚡ We share more in our latest. https://lnkd.in/dZu3knqg
