⚡️ Spotlight Series⚡️ Meet Vanessa Villaverde, a senior program investment officer at the California Health Care Foundation. She’s building partnerships and investments aimed at expanding access to capital for health entrepreneurs who are building culturally and linguistically appropriate tech solutions. Health care solutions specifically to meet the needs of Latinx, Black, Asian-American Pacific Island, and other underserved communities. Because too often entrepreneurs of color have to rely on family and friends to support their businesses to get started – as 72 percent of Latino entrepreneurs do today. And that keeps health care tech solutions out of the hands of patients and improving their well-being. Learn more about how CHCF is working with partners like the @National Health IT Collaborative to boost investments for Latinx founders. #LatinoHeritageMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth #HealthcareTech

Improving California's health care system, so it works for all Californians.
About us
The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) is dedicated to advancing meaningful, measurable improvements in the way the health care delivery system provides care to the people of California, particularly those with low incomes and those whose needs are not well served by the status quo. We work to ensure that people have access to the care they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford. CHCF informs policymakers and industry leaders, invests in ideas and innovations, and connects with changemakers to create a more responsive, patient-centered health care system. For more information, visit www.chcf.org.

Thank you to Capitol Weekly for hosting it’s “Health Care in California” event. Our own Kara Carter joined a panel of experts to discuss the transformative potential of AI in reshaping healthcare delivery. As we at CHCF often stress, innovation must go hand-in-hand with equity and accessibility, especially for California residents served by the health care safety net. We're committed to staying at the forefront of these discussions, ensuring that as California's healthcare system evolves, it does so in a way that improves care for all Californians, particularly those with low incomes. We look forward to continuing this important conversation. #AIinHealthcare #HealthEquity #CaliforniaHealthcare #CHCF #ResponsibleAI

CHCF celebrated AltaMed's 55 years of building healthier communities at Noche de Salud y Arte. Our CEO and President, Sandra R. Hernández, M.D., received the Health Care Leader Award, highlighting CHCF's commitment to improving California's health care system for those with low incomes. AltaMed Health Services launched the H.E.L.P. Campaign, a $110 million initiative to uplift communities, strengthen prevention, create fairer environments, help families, and find innovative healthcare solutions. This aligns with CHCF's mission to ensure all Californians access needed care. We're proud to support AltaMed in this crucial work towards a healthier, more equitable California. #HealthcareEquity #CommunityHealth #CaliforniaHealthcare #CHCF #AltaMed55

As one of the most racially diverse states in the nation, California has a critical responsibility to address health disparities experienced by people of color. Our recent Almanac shows that people of color face barriers in accessing health care, often receive suboptimal treatment, and are most likely to experience poor outcomes in the health care system. A one-page quick reference guide provides a look at Medi-Cal managed care enrollment and quality of care by race/ethnicity ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gyMSEDP7

As of January 2024, Medi-Cal now covers all qualifying adults, regardless of immigration status. This marks the final phase of an 8-year effort to extend coverage to undocumented immigrants. Nearly 1 million Californians are gaining access to vital health care through this expansion. Promotores are working tirelessly to connect communities with these new opportunities, but sometimes encounter resistance. “We saw patients not wanting to come in, not even for their appointments, thinking that just getting the services for their health care was going to affect them.” Learn more on The CHCF Blog: https://lnkd.in/e8_vuPBm #MediCalForAll #HealthEquity #CaliforniaHealthCare

🩺 National Latino Physician Day: Bridging the Gap in Healthcare 🌟 Today is #LatinoPhysicianDay and it's crucial to address a pressing issue in our healthcare system: 📊 Did you know? • Latinos/x make up 19.5% of the US population • Yet only 6% of physicians are Latino/x • And just 1/3 of those are women This disparity isn't just about numbers—it's about health outcomes. Many in our community turn to family or neighbors for medical advice because reaching a doctor who understands them linguistically and culturally is challenging. 🚀 The path forward: • Increase Latino/x representation in medical schools • Implement innovative strategies like culturally competent digital health tools • Raise awareness about accessible healthcare options like video visits As a Mexican American family medicine physician, Jhaimy Fernandez, MD, founder of Alma First, has seen firsthand how lack of information can be a barrier.
