About us
The California High-Speed Rail Authority is responsible for planning, designing, building and operation of the first high-speed rail system in the nation. California high-speed rail will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs and preserve agricultural and protected lands. By 2029, the system will run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds capable of over 200 miles per hour. The system will eventually extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations. In addition, the Authority is working with regional partners to implement a state-wide rail modernization plan that will invest billions of dollars in local and regional rail lines to meet the state’s 21st century transportation needs.

Today, we renewed an agreement with the Federal Railroad Administration to continue assuming the FRA’s environmental review responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act! "The partnership and work that California and the FRA continue to do is essential to our goal of building clean infrastructure faster. By streamlining permitting and cutting red tape, we’re working to maximize taxpayer dollars and accelerate timelines – to get passengers on California high-speed rail trains as quickly as possible." – California Governor Gavin Newsom (Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom) More information: https://ow.ly/GH7z50SII4L

Thank you to all who attended our "Women in Construction: Building the Nation" panel at the Cal Expo & State Fair! Authority Board Member and Executive Vice President at United Contractors, Emily Cohen, did an outstanding job moderating the conversation with these inspiring women working on high-speed rail. We're extremely grateful to all the panelists, including Desrae Ruiz of the Ironworkers Local 155, Rhonda Ripley of the Nor Cal Carpenters Union, Alicia Henley of LIUNA Local 294, and Jennifer Clickenbeard of the Operating Engineers Local 3 for sharing their experiences in the construction industry, including their experiences as women in a male-dominated industry and the benefits of good-paying union work. Also, we wanted to shout out the Nor Cal Carpenters Union and Build California for coming out to table at our exhibit and for offering great information and fun activities for the kids!
