As we celebrate the Partnership of Rangeland Trusts 20th Anniversary, we want to share a great conservation story from our friends at the Texas Agriculture Land Trust (TALT). Clayton and Modesta Williams protected their Happy Cove and High Lonesome ranches with conservation easements through the TALT. Driven by a deep conservation ethic, they implemented sustainable practices to enhance the native grasslands and preserve the land for wildlife and cattle. Their goal was to safeguard the ranches from development and fragmentation, ensuring the land remains intact for future generations. Working lands conservation wouldn’t exist without the farm and ranch families who make decisions to conserve the lands they steward. Becoming partners with a Partnership of Rangeland Trusts (PORT) member organization means these landowners have a partner not just for life, but for generations. Each PORT member values the expertise and knowledge landowners have gained by living with the land. PORT works to ensure these families can continue a way of life that provides so many of our foundational human needs. The Garamendi family is one of these partners. In 1998, they became the first ranching partner of the California Rangeland Trust, setting the stage for the 93 ranching families that have followed. Their commitment ensures that their land will remain working for generations to come.
