Lisa explains how frustrating it can be for people with permanent disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, or Alzheimer’s, to go through an annual reassessment process just to continue receiving services. They face the same hurdles every year, regardless of whether their condition is lifelong or non-progressive. “Even if you’re a child with a disability or a senior with dementia, you still have to go through this yearly assessment,” she says. “It’s exhausting, and it doesn’t make sense.” Read more about Lisa’s journey on Storytellers from the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities: https://lnkd.in/ghUZsXy4 #disabilityadvocacy #disabilityrights #NDEAM

As part of the Council’s 2024 goals of “Home, Health, Work,” SCDD has several activities underway to promote employment, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). We are excited to share our second community integrated employment Community of Practice (CoP 2.0) series. During NDEAM, national subject matter expert, Rick McAllister, will explore best practices in job development and individualized service provision. Please join the CA Supported Employment field of practice in an interactive learning environment where CIE supporters share ideas, challenges, and solutions.
