Last night was an emotional roller coaster attending the premiere of SUPER/MAN, The Christopher Reeve Story. One of the highlights of my career was serving as Christopher Reeve’s publicist for the last seven years of his life. It was a true honor to be a witness to history collaborating with Chris in his quest to find a cure for spinal cord injury while at the same time his wife Dana advocated for people living with paralysis. I first met Chris in February 1995 (3 months before his accident) when he agreed to emcee a fundraiser for one of Bob Witeck and my clients. Three years later Chris hired our firm to support his (and his soon to be launched Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation) quest to cure paralysis caused by a spinal cord injury. Since that time, his three children (Alexandra Reeve Givens, Matthew Reeve whose mother is Gae Eaton) and Will Reeve (Dana was his mom) have carried on Chris and Dana’s legacy by serving on the board of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. Progress made to date has been a team effort and thanks also goes to Michael Manganiello, Maggie Friedman Goldberg, Laurie Hawkins, and Tricia Brooks who among so many others fought tirelessly alongside the Reeve family. You can see the amazing documentary on Sep. 21 and 25th in a theater near you via Fathom Events. Go to their website to learn more.
