The number of Black men at HBCUs is at it's lowest since 1976. How do we restore belief and increase their enrollment at HBCUs? On All Things Considered from NPR, Calvin Hadley, Ph.D. from Howard University spoke about a recent analysis that Black men now account for 26% of HBCU enrollment, down from 38% in 1976. Calvin stated: "The education that you receive in an HBCU transcends the classroom experience. It transcends the relationship that you have with your professor. The education exists in between the lines of the pages. HBCUs inundate you with the sense of belief." 📊 Our social intelligence research highlights how alumni stories can powerfully convey the unique value of an HBCU education, inspiring prospective students to believe in the promise of these institutions. Our recommended strategies support campuses in leveraging outcomes-focused messaging to connect with prospective Black men and women, encourage enrollment, and uplift the next generation. 📚 Read the NPR article: https://lnkd.in/dsrEjzGT 💡 Get the research: https://lnkd.in/gW_CEpUj

When was the last time you had a conversation about your strategic plan that wasn’t focused on planning for the next? After 20 years in higher education, I’ve seen just how slow change can be. To remain relevant, a robust strategic plan must evolve with our campus communities. Traditional surveys and focus groups are valuable but miss key voices. That’s where Social Intelligence shines—it captures unfiltered, real-time online conversations, giving us insights into our community’s authentic perceptions. At the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, social intelligence revealed ways to better engage with their Latinx community, leading to a transformative shift in their approach. This isn’t just about data; it’s about truly understanding and meeting our communities where they are. By tapping into these insights, we can create plans that not only stay relevant but genuinely reflect the voices of our institutions. Intrigued? DM me or Campus Sonar CEO Liz Gross, Ph.D., to discuss how social intelligence can strengthen your strategic planning.

On Trusted Voices, Kevin R. McClure shares that it's one thing to tell a leader to go build trust—the hard part is understanding how to do it in practice, on your campus. The study Kevin and Jorge Burmicky, Ph.D. released surveyed college presidents on the leadership traits needed to succeed in today's challenging higher ed landscape. One of the traits was trust building, which included the critical skill of listening to and understanding the needs of stakeholders. Pair this study with our social intelligence report on public perception of the value of college. The data and insights support the challenges Kevin and Jorge outlined in their study, but provide the additional context of what their audience thinks and believes. The report shares four recommendations leadership teams can use to put the insights into practice on their campus. #HigherEducation #BuildTrust #SocialIntelligence #HigherEdLeadership https://lnkd.in/gj9ZSZ8T
