On Trusted Voices, Kevin R. McClure shares that it's one thing to tell a leader to go build trust—the hard part is understanding how to do it in practice, on your campus. The study Kevin and Jorge Burmicky, Ph.D. released surveyed college presidents on the leadership traits needed to succeed in today's challenging higher ed landscape. One of the traits was trust building, which included the critical skill of listening to and understanding the needs of stakeholders. Pair this study with our social intelligence report on public perception of the value of college. The data and insights support the challenges Kevin and Jorge outlined in their study, but provide the additional context of what their audience thinks and believes. With the economic mobility rate for HBCUs typically almost double all U.S. colleges and universities, it’s critical that public relations and marketing efforts effectively communicate the impact of the HBCU experience to reach more prospective students and donors.
