I recently had the pleasure of working on a case study about how CamTran is using Optibus to improve public transportation in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. One of the highlights was interviewing transportation planner Breanna McConnell about her experience using the software. Throughout the interview, I could tell how passionate Breanna is about helping her community and improving public transportation, despite all the complexity of network planning and the daily challenges involved in running reliable, accessible services. I’m grateful that Optibus can help make Breanna's work easier and support her in making a real difference. Case Study: How CamTran and Optibus are Transforming Public Transportation in Cambria County, Pennsylvania CamTran, the public transportation agency serving Cambria County, PA, knows that data is key to planning good services. Working with Optibus for Planning, Scheduling, Rostering, and GTFS, CamTran is transforming their operation with new technologies and making a big impact on passengers and drivers in the following ways: ✨ Achieved static and real-time GTFS certification to enable better service information for passengers ✨With the implementation of a new scenario generation and scheduling process, a task that previously took days now “literally takes minutes,” optimizing services for passengers and improving work schedules for bus drivers. ✨ Conducting in-depth, equity-driven evaluations for network redesign, including population density, bus stop usage, and resource usage, using multi-layered data visualizations As Breanna McConnell, Transportation Planner at CamTran, puts it, “What I like about Optibus is the ability to manage the data, the schedule, and everything on my own. The ease of using the product is awesome.” With Optibus, CamTran is bringing to Cambria County new technologies that will enable better transportation across the region. "Having Optibus - just the ability to do the layers, the impact analysis - is going to make my job and the ability to do a thorough evaluation of the redesign easy and possible," says Bre.
