Theories of change are generally developed at the beginning of an evaluation, but we often don't return to them as a guiding document. What if we did? To promote equity and social justice in our work, it’s crucial to challenge our own foundations. By using a ToC not only as a product, but as a process, evaluators can reap a multitude of benefits such as: proactively identifying risks, triggering reflection and iterative learning, appropriately adapting work plans, strengthening communication, establishing (or maintaining) stakeholder buy-in, and facilitating proper hand-over. Want to learn more? Join us in one week for our half-day session Inclusive and Equitable Evaluations Using a Theory of Change. A better way to do a land acknowledgement? Stating land acknowledgement has found its place in meetings and workshops, which is something to celebrate. We appreciate all DEI activists who persevered to get us to this point. But what next? Is saying the traditional territory names enough? One thing that we are learning while developing learning material for entrepreneurs is to do a reflective land acknowledgement where we go beyond only naming the territories. When you are planning for a land acknowledgement, ask yourself: 1. Why am I doing this? 2. What is my end goal? (What do you hope listeners will do after hearing the acknowledgment?) 3. What have I learned by putting this land acknowledgement together? Invite your audience to take action as active allies to Indigenous Peoples. Reflect on the wisdom and the compassion they share in their community and we can all learn from them. Look at some meaningful land acknowledgement examples:` `LinkedIn We encourage you to share your land acknowledgement with the CES-ON community. As for us… The CES Ontario Chapter works on land situated upon the traditional territories of First Nations across Ontario. We acknowledge the original peoples of the land and waterways where we live: the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat and the Attawandaron. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties. Many of us at CES-ON are settlers and are accountable for the promises made by our ancestors. We are all responsible for stewarding and caring for this land and working towards reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples in Ontario. Please join our LinkedIn Group to join the discussion and get input from the community on your land acknowledgement. #LandAcknowledgement #DEI #Inclusion
