Global smart personal audio market up 10.6% in Q2 2024, driven by open-form earphones The global smart personal audio market is booming, with Q2 2024 shipments hitting 106 million units, up 10.6% year-on-year — a record high for a second quarter. TWS continues to lead the charge, holding a 72.6% market share and growing 12.6% annually. Vendors are innovating to stand out, with sub-US$50 models now making up over half of the market. According to Cynthia (Qiufan) Chen, Research Manager at Canalys, “Vendors are actively looking to add novelty features to stand out from the intensifying competition with homogenous characteristics and price war.” Open-form factor earphones are also gaining traction, as vendors like Shokz and Huawei focus on unique user experiences and affordability. Open-form factor emerges as a bright growth spot in Q2 2024 as vendors manage to bring it out from the niche segment by offering consumers unique user experiences and affordable price points. The wireless headphones segment is seeing a rebound, driven by emerging players like #QCY, Baseus and Anker Innovations LTD, who are making substantial inroads into the mass market. Jack Leathem, Research Analyst at Canalys, highlights this trend: “Emerging players’ market expansion is fueling the segment’s recovery in Q2. They are disrupting the entry-level segment with seamless wireless connectivity and long battery life.” Established brands like Bose Corporation and Sony doubling down on premium sound quality, the market is becoming increasingly competitive. Cynthia (Qiufan) Chen notes, “The audio market is becoming increasingly crowded. To compete in such a dynamic segment, vendors must differentiate, but differentiation strategies must align with the vendor’s core business strategy.” Top 5 Worldwide Smart Personal Audio Vendors for Q2 2024 Apple including Beats by Dre Samsung Electronics including HARMAN International boAt Lifestyle Xiaomi Technology Sony Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/g8RBDzHh Nicole Peng Jason Low Ashweej Aithal Omdia Informa Tech #Apple #Samsung #Boat #Xiaomi #Sony #Bose #Noise #Harman #Beats #TWS #Audiomarket

Canalys latest research shows smartphone shipments in the Middle East (excluding Turkey) reached 11.5 million units in Q2 2024, marking a 20% year-on-year increase. The robust growth was fueled by the region’s strong economic stability and supportive government policies that assisted consumer demand in the smartphone market. Strategic tech investments and economic diversification will keep driving momentum, pushing vendors to strengthen their market positions in the region. “Samsung Mobile and Apple saw shipment declines in Q2 2024 but are poised for growth in the second half,” said Canalys Senior Analyst Manish Pravinkumar. In Q2, Samsung maintained pole position in the region with a 28% market share, despite a 5% drop in shipments, driven by the mid-tier Galaxy A series and the premium #GalaxyS24. In the second half, Samsung's shipments are expected to be boosted by aggressive retail activations and strategic pricing in the mid-to-high segments. Even though the newly launched Z Fold series is yet to show the expected attention, demand for the S24 series remains high. Apple held a 10% market share, with the iPhone 13 and 14 satisfying the region’s iOS demand in Q2. The second half is expected to see a demand increase for upcoming iPhones from the region’s affluent population. Xiaomi Technology surged to second place with a 70% growth, thanks to competitively priced models such as its Redmi A3, 13C, and 13 4G. However, its ASP dropped by 14% due to a focus on the sub-US$200 segment. Transsion, which achieved 3% growth, claimed third place by capitalizing on aggressive pricing and mass-market appeal. Almost 49% of TRANSSION’s volume came from its infinix mobile brand, while #TECNO’s regional sign-up with #Lulu Hypermarkets is yet to drive shipments, but it will assist its growth in Saudi Arabia, which has a larger expat population. HONOR experienced substantial growth through increased retail presence in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Motorola Mobility (a Lenovo Company) expanded its distribution across key channels, which assisted its Edge series’ robust shipment growth. Enterprise software sales through hyperscaler cloud marketplaces – led by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft and Google Cloud – are projected to reach US$85 billion by 2028, rising from US$16 billion in 2023. The availability of cloud credits for third-party purchases through the hyperscalers’ marketplaces and the emergence of new digital-first buyers are reshaping enterprise customer procurement behavior, vendor sales strategies and channel models. While most vendor sales via these marketplaces are today “direct” to end customers, channel partners are playing an increasingly important role. By 2027, Canalys expects more than 50% of marketplace sales to flow through the channel. These are the predictions from Alastair Edwards and our global channels team in the latest Canalys complimentary report, 'Now and Next for hyperscaler marketplaces'. “The channel has concerns about the rise of marketplaces, but both hyperscalers and vendors acknowledge the vital role of channel partners in driving customer adoption and growth." Edwards says. “Customers often prefer buying through trusted partners for help with managing cloud commitments and accessing professional services and technical expertise when sourcing complex technologies from multiple marketplaces.”

Global cloud spending leaps 19% in Q2 2024, reaching US$78.2 billion.    The top three vendors – Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud - continue to dominate by collectively growing by 24% this quarter to account for 63% of total spending. Accelerating demand for AI is expected to generate significant opportunities for sustained growth in cloud services. Concerns are emerging regarding potential over-investment in AI, as returns appear to be taking longer than initially anticipated. Despite these concerns, hyperscalers continue to increase their investments in AI – all three of the top hyperscalers ramped up their capital expenditure on data centers. All three hyperscalers reported a significant surge in the number of customers using AI. Analyst quotes: “The future of cloud computing remains promising. In the face of transformative tools like AI, the main providers will invest for fear of missing out,” said Alex Smith, VP at Canalys. “Startups bring fresh perspectives, agility and specialist expertise, providing hyperscalers with opportunities to tap into emerging markets, address technological gaps and acquire new talent,” said Yi Zhang, Analyst at Canalys. Vendor performance Q2 2024: #AWS maintained its lead with a 33% market share and 19% year-on-year growth, driven by its Bedrock platform and a US$230 million commitment to AI startups through its Generative AI Accelerator. #MicrosoftAzure followed with a 20% market share and 29% growth, as AI services contributed 8% of its quarterly growth, reflecting #Azure’s ongoing data center expansions and AI innovation. #Google Cloud saw the fastest growth, up 30%, holding a 10% market share. Its AI infrastructure, including #VertexAI and #Gemini, contributed billions in revenue, supported by new channel initiatives like private offers through Google Cloud Marketplace. Enterprise software sales through hyperscaler cloud marketplaces are projected to reach US$85 billion by 2028, led by Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace, Microsoft Azure Marketplace and Google Cloud Marketplace. Enterprise customers have committed to spend over $360 billion on cloud services with #AWS, #Azure and #GCP. Spending on third-party software and SaaS is shifting toward hyperscaler marketplaces as customers seek to burn down these credits. This is driving major market disruption. However, the channel will be increasingly important to the success of this model. Canalys anticipates that over 50% of hyperscaler marketplace sales will flow through the channel by 2027.   Hyperscaler cloud marketplaces are accelerating as a critical route to market for software and SaaS.
