The Hollywood Burbank Airport Replacement Terminal will boast 14 new gates as well as a new TSA checkpoint and baggage claim area to update safety and accessibility issues with the current terminal. The design concept is "The Icon," aims to transcend the physical contextual fabric and connect with something more — the art, creativity, memories and local pride of being associated with Hollywood. Our partners on this design-build project include Corgan, Jacobs, Holder Construction, Pankow Builders and TEC Construction Ltd. We are thrilled to share that CannonDesign holds the #12 ranking in Engineering News-Record's 2024 Top 100 Green Design Firms and Contractors. Eric Corey Freed, RA, LEED Fellow, our Director of Sustainability, shared that the cost of embodied carbon materials are pushing clients to explore low carbon materials like mass timber. “The giant challenge ahead of us now is how do we truly get to zero emissions. Given the massive embodied carbon footprints of concrete, aluminum, steel, and glass—how do we build toward zero carbon at scale?” Read more about the rankings and the state of various industry sustainability efforts here: https://lnkd.in/gKxYHQxC

Today is World Mental Health Day. As a firm, we are focused on designing for mental wellbeing in all spaces, not just healthcare buildings. Most moments of crisis don't occur within hospital walls. To us, designing for mental wellbeing means we must shift our focus beyond treatment spaces alone and expand our line of sight towards prevention. We must consider mental health within all the places we live, learn, work, play and care. Recently, our Stephanie Vito, AIA, ACHA and Marisa Nemcik, AIA NCARB WELL AP led a webinar that illustrated ways a three-dimensional ecosystem of wellness can shift the conversation from treatment of mental health issues to one of prevention on college campuses in particular.
