Our team was honored to be at the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the UC Health Emergency Preparedness and and Response Center (EPRC) yesterday, a space to support the adjacent world-class Emergency Department. Funded fully by federal, state and local entities, the EPRC is a one-of-a-kind space that can easily expand or contract to accommodate anything from a community recognition ceremony to a mass casualty situation to another pandemic or infectious disease scenario. It also allows UC Health to safely handle crises while still letting the main Emergency Department function normally. Abigail Clary, FAIA, FACHA, LEED AP, co-director of our health practice, inspired hundreds on Friday at TEDxChicago. Abbie blended her personal journey with the healthcare system with her experiences as a healthcare architect to share how patient and clinician stories can transform care spaces into places of empathy and healing. Abbie left the crowd inspired and empowered to become advocates for themselves and their loved ones within the labyrinth of the healthcare system.

It was an honor to design and then witness the official opening of GSA Building 48 in Denver recently. The building is a new beacon for sustainable design as it transforms a former World War II munitions plant into a cutting-edge workspace for the U.S. Department of the Interior. The building achieves LEED Gold, SITES Silver, net zero energy and other bold sustainable design goals. Learn more about the project here: https://hubs.la/Q02R7HVt0

The Northwell Health Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion is the new jewel of its flagship North Shore University Hospital campus on Long Island. The design team sought to blend the materiality and scale of the existing NSUH complex and to create an open and inviting facility where patient experience was paramount. The new pavilion presents a welcoming visage on Community Drive with a large sun shaded, multi-story window which references the Northwell Health logo: a constellation symbol that represents Northwell’s diverse group of forward-thinking people, all moving in the same direction to transform the future of healthcare. The Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion has 18 operating rooms including three Hybrid ORs and 132 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) rooms. The pavilion is home to the award-winning Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital and feature a dedicated entrance for cardiac patients and their loved ones and a new lobby. It also allowed Northwell Health to expand its organ transplant services and its neurosurgery department. 📸 : Laura Peters

Being bold and going there are part of our Living-Centered Design ethos- and we were proud to share some of our bold design ideas and projects on the stage at Fast Company's Innovation Festival last week in New York City. Our Anne Gibson took the stage alongside innovators from Pfizer and NYU Langone Health, where she shared how design is helping healthcare become more accessible, personalized and adept at addressing previously unmet needs of patients and staff.  Earlier in the week, we hosted a panel discussion on the interconnectivity across experiences, spaces, brands and stories in our NYC office. The discussion was moderated by our creative director, Dylan Coonrad and featured Abigail Clary, FAIA, FACHA, LEED AP, co-director of our global health practice, alongside panelists from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Inc. Magazine. Thank you to all who attended and shared stories and ideas for making our spaces and experiences bolder and better! https://lnkd.in/gFWEykTv

More than 10 million students in our nation’s elementary, middle and high schools process and perceive the world differently from their peers, known as being neurodivergent. To thrive academically, emotionally and socially, these children often require tailored interventions and support. Some of these can come from the design of schools and classrooms. We partnered with Chicago Public Schools' Edison Park Elementary to create a new single-room sensory space for diverse student needs and divergent development. The school transformed what was an empty room into a dynamic space with three distinct clusters around gross motor skills, sensory activation and calming. Learn more about this sensory space: https://lnkd.in/gwT7UJqM
