Canopy Advisory Group had the honor of hosting renowned author and philanthropist Mitch Albom a few weeks ago. During the event, Albom shared the inspiring journey of how he became a writer and spoke passionately about his philosophy of "giving is living." Albom’s message was a moving reminder of the impact generosity can have—not only in our personal lives but on the world at large. We are grateful we could bring in such an impactful speaker to our network and look forward to our next events.

The most undervalued benefit of hiring fractional experts? Speed. If you talk to Canopy clients and anyone else who has had success with fractional projects, speed is a factor that comes up again and again. Strategy was developed more quickly, deliverables were completed faster, every phase of the project moved along at a faster clip. Why can fractional experts routinely increase the speed of business processes when one might expect the opposite to happen? There are three main elements that fractional experts bring that both contribute to speed and are difficult to replicate inside of most businesses: 🔹 Strategic Direction - Going the wrong way fast gets you to the wrong place faster. The experience of a fractional expert allows them to set a strategic direction that’s both innovative and clear, as well as show the team what solid execution looks like, which almost always increases the speed of work and the speed to impact. It’s an uncomfortable truth that many companies either haven’t set a solid strategic direction, or it’s not clear and actionable enough for their teams to work effectively against it. 🔹 Timeboxing - Timeboxing is the component of project-based work that allows fractional experts to generate so much more speed than with traditional in-house projects. Companies have an allotted period of time to complete a fractional project (or the project costs go up), and that set end date and the milestones within the project create a sense of urgency that often doesn’t exist with standard corporate projects. 🔹 Perspective on Risk - There are exceptions, but in general, most organizations are afraid of change and risk-averse. If companies are willing to listen and respect their expertise, great fractional experts can nullify these tendencies. Fear makes everything move slower; its removal can speed things up immediately. Speed is never valuable in the absence of quality. Speed without strategic direction is wasted effort. Speed can be, however, a critical differentiator for your business. Doing the right things and doing innovative things faster than your competitors can give you an advantage, plain and simple. If you know you’re not moving quickly enough, consider fractional support to generate that extra edge. ------------------ Interested in bringing a fractional expert into your business? "One of the areas of a labor market slowdown that’s not talked about enough is that these periods of time are not always connected to a true lack of need in organizations." - Griffen O'Shaughnessy

Everywhere you look, you’ll see news that the U.S. labor market is “cooling” or “losing steam.” Hiring is down, layoffs are still happening, organizations are continuing to tighten their belts in this ongoing period of economic uncertainty. One of the areas of a labor market slowdown that’s not talked about enough is that these periods of time are not always connected to a true lack of need in organizations. Lower demand for full-time employees can happen for a variety of reasons. In most cases, it’s not because a company suddenly doesn’t need the staff they thought they would need at the beginning of the year. More likely, roles are being taken off the table to save money, which means more work piled on the employees who were supposed to get the relief from the added headcount. For these reasons, a labor market “slowdown” is often one of the most valuable times to bring fractional help into your organization. These are the times when it’s most difficult to get any new headcount approved, a time when your time might be under even more pressure than usual, and a time where there’s likely urgency to see results. Bringing on fractional support in these situations is a shrewd strategic move that allows you to: 🔹 Access the knowledge, experience and work product of experts in their fields and disciplines at a far lower cost than hiring full-time employees at that level. 🔹 Show your talented and high-performing employees that you have their backs, and that you’re here to support them in every way possible. 🔹 Partner with people who have been in similar situations and who have solved similar problems before. A solution is rarely exactly the same from company to company, but lived experience in these situations can save a ton of time by helping you understand where to start and what to watch out for. So if you lose your headcount or if you’re the one who makes the calls about where the budget can or can’t be used, you don’t have to simply shelter in place. These are the exact types of situations where fractional experts thrive. Your business and your team need you to pivot. Fractional gives you an option that allows you to both save money and keep moving forward.

Last week, Canopy Advisory Group, in partnership with Conscious Capitalism, had the honor of hosting renowned author and philanthropist Mitch Albom at CiviCO. During the event, Albom shared the inspiring journey of how he became a writer and spoke passionately about his philosophy of "giving is living." Reflecting on his beloved book, Tuesdays with Morrie, he recounted powerful stories from his conversations with Morrie Schwartz, who once said, "The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.“ Albom’s message was a moving reminder of the impact generosity can have—not only in our personal lives but on the world at large. He also introduced his newest book, The Little Liar, which promises to explore complex themes of truth, betrayal, and survival. We are grateful for the opportunity to bring in such an impactful speaker and extend our thanks to Conscious Capitalism for their collaboration in making this event a success. #GivingIsLiving #DenverEvent #CanopyAdvisory

For many businesses, October is one of the busiest months of the year. As the final quarter of each year begins, the time frame to finish the year strong immediately seems a lot smaller. There’s a sense of urgency to make every day of October count from a sales and revenue perspective. The holiday season is right around the corner, and that usually means a slowdown in new business coming in as customers and staff focus on family and vacation. At the same time, business owners and leaders are splitting their focus between wrapping up the current year, and looking to the next. It can be hectic. And while it may not seem like it now, October can be the perfect time to bring fractional experts into your business. Here’s why: 🔹 Have gaps in sales or marketing that you’re concerned are going to hurt your pipeline and revenue in Q4? Bring in an expert to shore up your strategy and programs and help you exceed your goals. 🔹 Have key business problems to solve in the next year that you know you’re unlikely to be able to get to or support with your current team and bandwidth? Bring in an expert to take care of those problems and provide you a strategic and tactical way forward while you focus on other critical areas. 🔹 Know you need to staff an area of your business but you either aren’t fully ready to hire a full-time employee or don’t have the budget? Bring in an expert to do the work now and prepare you for that critical full-time hire. October is always full of scares, but it doesn’t have to be that way for your business. Give yourself and your team some relief by considering fractional hires and projects. ------------------ Canopy Advisory Group is here to help you find the right fractional experts to help you solve your problems, bring them seamlessly into your business, and make every fractional project a resounding success. 🔗 Visit us at www.canopyadvisory.com

The Shift in HR Leadership: Embracing Flexibility and Balance As a proud supporter of fractional work, we have been closely following a significant trend in the HR landscape: many Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) are stepping away from high-stress, full-time roles to embrace part-time and fractional positions. This movement is not just about personal preference; it’s a strategic shift that reflects a deeper understanding of workplace dynamics and well-being. The recent article from WorkLife highlights this trend, showcasing how seasoned CHROs are prioritizing their mental and physical health by seeking more sustainable work-life balances. At Canopy Advisory Group, we recognize and champion this evolution for several reasons: 1. Prioritizing Well-Being: As leaders make the bold choice to step back from relentless corporate pressures, they set an important precedent for workplace wellness. By embracing fractional roles, they not only care for themselves but also encourage organizations to foster healthier environments. 2. Bridging Expertise Gaps: Fractional roles allow experienced leaders to bring their expertise to multiple organizations simultaneously. This not only fills critical skill gaps for businesses but also allows CHROs to apply their insights across different contexts, driving strategic initiatives without the risk of burnout. 3. Redefining Leadership: This trend challenges the traditional notions of leadership. At Canopy Advisory Group, we believe that flexibility is a key driver of innovation and adaptability. By supporting fractional work, we help organizations attract top-tier talent who seek a balance between professional fulfillment and personal well-being. 4. Responding to Evolving Needs: The shift toward fractional positions mirrors a larger transformation in workforce expectations. Employees increasingly value work-life balance, and organizations that adapt will have a competitive edge in attracting and retaining top talent. 5. Fostering Collaboration and Diversity: With CHROs serving multiple companies, they introduce diverse perspectives that can enhance innovation and collaboration. This cross-pollination of ideas is vital in today’s fast-paced business environment. Canopy is dedicated to supporting both businesses in leveraging fractional talent and individuals who choose this path. We believe that the future of work lies in flexibility, innovation, and a commitment to well-being. How are you navigating these changes in your organization or are you leading the change? #HRLeadership #FractionalWork #EmployeeWellbeing #CanopyAdvisoryGroup #OrganizationalChange https://lnkd.in/dSVZjTSq
