Capital Area Chapter TAWWA

Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming August Chapter Meeting that will be held at City of Austin - Austin Water Utility's Glenn Bell Service Center on Friday, August 16th at 11:30am. We are looking forward to hearing from Nissim Gore-Datar and Praveen Krishna who will be presenting "Improving Water Supply Resiliency for Central Texas Utilities". Nine of our young professionals volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank on the afternoon of Saturday, July 13, working in teams with other volunteers to sort through donated dried goods, discard unusable donations, assemble and break down boxes in the CTFB warehouse. Collectively, their shift provided 180 boxes of food (4,500 pounds or ~3,750 meals) for folks across Central Texas. Thank you to all volunteers!

📣 CALLING ALL OPERATORS! Did you know that TAWWA offers a scholarship for current water operators (distribution, facility, lab, etc.) to use towards continuing education? On top of this, starting this year, the Capital Area Chapter will be offering a scholarship to a local applicant. To be considered for both, apply online at https://lnkd.in/gj-kdqGB. Applications received at the State level will be considered at the Chapter level - in other words, you only need to submit your application once to be considered for both. She can also be available for virtual info sessions with operators and/or their supervisors.

For the last creek cleanup of the season, 18 Bartholomew Brush Busters (including two from TAWWA Texas State Chapter and one from the Windsor Park Neighborhood Association) carried out 20 bags of trash and debris from Tannehill Creek Branch on May 25. We will resume activities for our Keep Austin Beautiful commitment in the fall. Twenty-one of our young professionals toured City of Austin - Austin Water Utility's largest wastewater treatment plant, Walnut Creek, on Tuesday, May 21. Thank you to process engineer Noe Martinez, EIT for leading the tour! Here he is demonstrating the high water mark from a flood on December 20, 1991, at the settled wastewater pump station.
