    CEO at Fetii (YC S22) | Forbes 30 under 30 |

Capital Factory has been a huge part of Fetii’s success. When I chose Austin to be Fetii’s homebase I immediately began searching for partners and resources. The Austin VC ecosystem wouldn’t pay much attention to two college kids pitching a party bus (and I don’t blame them), but Capital Factory took us in and provided resources that helped us, and continue to help us to this day So when Joshua Baer asked if I’d sit down at his Longhorn Startup UT class and dive deep into Fetii’s origins … I knew I had to Speaking with this group of aspiring UT Austin entrepreneurs reminded me of the “searching phase” I went through early on. It feels like a lifetime ago that I was sitting in my apartment at Texas A&M, brainstorming startup ideas with Justin Rath. But in hindsight, I’ve come to understand that while a solid idea is important, it’s your “why” that really matters. Starting a company can be a vehicle for achieving your goals, but those goals need to be clear. Building and scaling a company is stressful, difficult, lonely, and consumes most aspects of your mind. That’s why your “why” has to be strong and clear enough to withstand the inevitable pressures that come with company building. A good idea will get you started, but it’s your purpose—your deeper motivation—that will keep you going when things get tough (and trust me it’ll get tough) That’s why I believe aspiring entrepreneurs (and really anyone) should carve out time to reflect on their deeper meaning and purpose. Dive into philosophy, religious texts, history, even apologetic debates that challenge your current views. The more perspectives and information you absorb, the closer you’ll get to understanding your “why” When you’ve grounded yourself in a purpose you truly believe in (or trick yourself into believing), that clarity will push you further than any startup idea alone ever could. It’ll be your foundation through all the ups and downs. You might even find that starting a company doesn’t even help you achieve your purpose in life, in which case you’ve hit the jackpot and avoided a lot of headaches. Either way focus on figuring out your life goals. And for the love of god, please don’t just make money your “why” Anyways that’s my rant. I could be wrong about everything. Not sure yet. Time will tell.
