Austin's regional public transportation provider. Since 1985, we serve our communities with reliable transit options.

About us

Capital Metro is the public transportation provider for over 1.3 million people in the Austin region. Our mission is to connect people and communities to jobs and opportunities, and our vision is to transform the daily lives of Texans. We provide a variety of transit services, including MetroBus, MetroRail, UT Shuttles, Pickup and MetroAccess, to meet the ever-growing needs of the Austin community. To serve the Austin of today and tomorrow, we’re working on Project Connect, the largest investment our region has ever made. The November 2020 voter approval of this transformative program will bring light rail service that changes the way Austinites move around the city, new MetroRapid routes that better serve East Austin and great regional service for the entire area. Join us in our mission to build a better Austin. At CapMetro, find work that works for you ~ It’s a thing around here!

Congrats to our Planning and ETOD teams for receiving the Advancing Diversity and Social Change award, and to to #CapMetro Board Member Leslie Pool for receiving the Planning Advocate Award from the American Planning Association - Texas Chapter! CapMetro, in partnership with the City of Austin, spearheaded the ETOD Study to integrate future transportation investments with tools and policies focused on community preservation and economic access. This groundbreaking project emphasizes equity, prioritizes underrepresented voices, and aligns transit and housing strategies across multiple agencies. With housing limited by an outdated land development code, Leslie Pool and her District 7 team built a coalition of the public and private sector planning professionals needed to effect change. The coalition and community groups crafted HOME (Home Options for Mobility and Equity). The plan offered more housing types and smaller lot options for a denser, more walkable and resilient city. Today, we celebrated White Cane Day at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. It was a wonderful event that brought our community together to raise awareness about the significance of the white cane. We focused on the crucial themes of accessibility, safety and inclusivity. Participants shared experiences and insights, highlighting the ongoing need for greater public understanding and support for white cane users. The event is a powerful reminder of how essential it is to create a more inclusive society for individuals with visual impairments. We're grateful to everyone who joined us in making this important day a continuing conversation about accessibility in our community. More about White Cane Day in TX: whitecaneday.org

Last night, CapMetro hosted a successful Community Night where residents engaged with our team while enjoying bowling, roller skating and pizza. This interactive event provided a unique opportunity for the community to learn about and provide direct feedback on Transit Plan 2035 -- our comprehensive vision for the future of public transportation in Central Texas. As we work to meet the evolving needs of our growing region, community input is crucial. Transit Plan 2035 will guide our service improvements over the next 5-10 years, complementing existing initiatives like Project Connect while focusing on enhancing our current transit system. We're grateful for the thoughtful feedback and enthusiasm shown by attendees! This collaborative approach ensures that our transit planning reflects the real needs and aspirations of the Central Texas community. Interested in learning more or sharing your thoughts? Thank you to Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTMHQ) and Brandon Boone from inviting #CapMetro to their latest #TechBytes session this week on "The Importance of Latino Representation in Tech," in celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth. We also thank Ouro for their collaboration on the event. A diverse workforce fosters creativity and encourages different perspectives, leading to better decision-making and more effective solutions. It also helps organizations better understand and serve diverse customers or clients. Moreover, diversity promotes a more inclusive and equitable work environment; something we strive for at our agency. It is also worth noting that Brandon is a Community Connector for Transit Plan 2035, our blueprint for the future of public transportation in Central Texas. Jacob and our other Community Connectors share information and gather feedback from their respective communities to help build a transit network that works best for everyone.

Your 2024 HABLA con Orgullo Latina Emerging Leader🤠 We won y’all. 🥹 This is my first community award, and I’m still at a loss for words in describing the immense gratitude I feel. This will hold a special place in my heart literally forever because it came from my comunidad.🫶🏼 I wouldn’t have this without the support from my friends and family, the leaders I continuously learn from (especially the mujeres chingonas that inspire me), and the 2024 Young Hispanic Professional Association of Austin (YHPAA) Board (who have worked so hard and whose efforts contributed to YHPPA being a finalists for the 2024 HABLA Con Orgullo Latino Community Organization). I hope to continue to be a servant to my community, connect and uplift one another, and make my people proud.❤️🔥 Thank you to everyone who voted. I hope y’all got to check out all the amazing people/organizations that were finalists in the 10th Annual HABLA Awards. (Paul Saldaña)✨
